Does our Transmition suck?

If you take a look at my signiture you can see my ultimate plan. I MUST have A LOT of horsepower! I 'm regretably abandoning my MP3 for the (relatively easy to achieve) high power potential of the Supra. The problem is......I'm in love with my MP3.
I made the decision because of some things I was hearing around the board. People were having transmition problems in stock trim. Now concidering that I need gobs of power, this was not going to fly with my 300+whp plans. I'm not going to spend a damn fortune on head work, pistons, rods, crank, ignition, fuel system, engine management, etc just to have to replace the transmition weekly. I will NOT be able to keep buying and installing transmitions and drivetrain components.

Do you think our drivetrain can handle 3 to 4 times it's original horsepower? (new clutch & flywheel of course)

Would the new axles for the mazda speed be strong enough? (at least I think it's getting new axles)

What do you guys think about this?

IF you were or are even able to build that kind of HP our of our engines and make it streetable....I can only assume you are wanting it streetable.......NO, if you are going to abuse it at all....our trannies in their form, new axels or not will NOT hold up to that kind of power and torture......they are just not that "over engineered".

I thought as much. Hondas have so much aftermarket support it sickens me. One reason I need a God awful amount of horsepower is to beat my friends. Just to name one, my bud has a freakin built 00 Si with a modified Vortech centrifical supercharger (w/ "after-cooler") kit. He's putting down 324 whp!!
Needless to say I get my ass handed to me! Are Hondas really that much more "over engineered?" It's a damn shame if you ask me. :( Thanks for crushing my dreams Sir Nuke! ;) Oh well......I guess I'll just get a TT Supra!! Ha ha ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaa!!!!(laugh) (If you didn't read that with a sinister mad scientist accent.....go back and do it again. Thanks for posting.

Good luck with the Supra, that is a beautiful car, with a $hit load of mods for WHP. I think that I read somwhere on here about our engine block holding up to 350 horses, but you said that you did not want to spend that kind of money. I will be willing though, hopefully after my turbo project I will do an engine build-up project.

I am not sure but checking at the (suprastore.com) the upgrades are pretty expensive. But hey like I said good luck on the SUPRA.

Go with the Supra. You will spend more on the car, but less making it go fast. 500+ HP is just a few thousand away. Just an intake can add over 20 HP, proven.

Honda's aren't better engineered than our cars, they just have more aftermarket support. If the parts were available when I bought my car I would be running 300-400 HP, but the aftermarket was, and still is, just not there.

Im postive i read the tranny only holds 300 lbs/tq somewhere, which kinda sucks, Im thinking low high 13s is the best anyone will get with the tranny holding up.

guess, ill find out sooner or later :D

yeah...unfortunately it's very unlikely that our cars will handle a load like that...good luck with the supra...especially finding one...early tt are hard to find nowadays especially in good condition...

There not as hard to find as you may think. Go to Autotrader.com and do a search. I have a bunch just in Jersey that I want (stock).
s***, I'm willing to fly out and drive it back wherever it may be! ROAD TRIP! and in a TT Supra! I'll lose my license half way home!!
heh heh heh......wait , that's not funny.

Hey

If u have enough money to buy and build a fast supra u have enough money to make an mp3 be fast enough to whoop that friend with the Si. Seriously. U have enough cash to make ur own damn tranny. LOL that would be nice. But i think u should stick with the more rare of two cars. Even tho the supra is really rare as well but its not like u see mp3's at all. Supra maybe three times a week. Both rare but u get the point. Plus hands down i have driven both cars and the supra even with suspension mods wouldn't hold against a stock mp3 for handling. So if ur looking for an all around car that will beat the s*** out everyday sports cars and even some of the faster ones, i.e. blackbirds and corvettes, and still handle like a race car then go for the mp3 but if u are looking for a moster that is just beyond fast go for the Supra.

You make a good point. You know jonlisle, if you'll have about 28000 in March for a Supra, you should have about 12k without selling the mp3. Do you realize what you can accomplish with 12k!? You could completely build up the internals for an incredibly high boost setup. Then swap in a beefier tranny and add a LSD. Maybe take the rest for bigger axles and handling mods. We should all be so lucky. You could easily claim fastest MP3 ever!

Chris

AHH yes. Either way I'll be too fast for my own good............just the way I like it! Fast and poor......if only there was another way. Wait a minute! According to Publishers Clearing House "You are already a winner of at least 50,000 dollars" :D
