Docking station Carputer project?

I was thinking the same thing about how far it stuck out. I guess you can't push it in too far or it won't open right...would it? Speaking of which...how is the action of it when it opens and closes. Does it spring out really fast and snap into place, or is it controlled?

Thanks for any response...I've been looking for the "right" screen for a few months now...and am getting a little discouraged.

Thanks,

Joe

I just went downstairs and checked on the action of the screen, and it is really fast, and snappy. You may want to guide it into place. Yeah, I think the protrusion is more for fucntionallity. It is only about a little over an inch out, and doesn't look bad from the driver's seat at all. :D

well then if it isnt' that bad i wouldn't worry about it.. . i was thinking maybe put it on the bottom din slot

that may cover up the stereo but you got a remote for that anyway

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm starting to think that a molded fixed screen might be best for me...but man that'll be a pain...moving the radio...molding a screen bezel. A flip out would be so nice. Are you happy with the display quality? Also, any problems getting the 800x480 native resolution? That might be the one area where I would prefer a windows machine...seems tricky on the powerbook laptops.

Not sure which mode I used last night, but I turned the resolution down to what I think was 800x480, and it was fine. No issues. The clarity is good (even with the touch screen control in front of the screen). The touch screen is bad-ass!

Ah. Saw this after I posted a question about it in that other thread re: depth of the cage.

If it sticks out like that by design... I may have to go with the in-dash fabrication and relocate my (eventual choice of) HU down below. Never use the ashtray or cig lighter in any event so no loss there.

Yeah. I just found out that it swivels too! I am posting from the car right now. I think I may be picking up some electrical noise on my monitor, case the laptop is plugged into the cig lighter right now. It works!!

Is that Xenarc in-dash model motorized? I recall that that was gonna be the selling point of the Xenarc...DigitalWW has one but I don't expect it to be in stock anytime soon.

Update:

Finished my install last weekend. Everything is put away now, and I can actually seat a passenger in the front seat again. I found out that the plug at the back of the monitor had come out, so I made sure I anchored it in good this time, and my colors are crisp and clear again. :)

This is my screen running with the Haltech E6X software to tune my engine. (sorry for the quality).

Hey man, what screen do you have? Is that the Digitalww? Do you have some pictures to show how far it protrudes out of the dash?
