Do you regret getting the Mp5 instead of the Mazda 3?

No regrets. We needed a new car in May, and couldn't wait 'til December or whenever the 3 was going to show up.

The 3 may have some advantages, like the availability of the 2.3 liter engine that could make it desirable. As far as styling goes, some days I like, some days I don't. I'm with uclap5 - I'll wait to reserve judgement until I can see the car in person.

My blurb above my avatar says it all. Protege5! if I ever need to replace mine, I'd get a used one...

or the rx-8 if I had the money...

Isn't the new Mazda3 platform designed by Volvo/Mazda/Ford? So, technically, you get the benefits of American, European, and Japanese engineers?

I really like the look of the Mazda3 but it is a new platform and the bugs will have to be worked out of it. So, I'm glad I bought the P5.

It's not that I regret it. It's just the fact when a new model comes out to replace a current model, the value of the car drops significantly. I actaully didn't know the 3 was coming out when I bought my P5 this past April. If I would have known, I would have bought something else. Same thing happened when I bought my 2001 A4. The new body style came out and the value of my car went to s***.

The value of your car only drops if you want to sell it...so the value is all in your head. When I sell my P5 7-10 years from now (if I sell it) after I have completely sucked the life out of it, there will be several new models that have little effect on its resale value.

In fact, the more popular the new models are, the more money you can get for your car years down the road...provided it isn't a lemon. If mazda is doing great in the auto industry you'll get more for your used car, if they go out of business your car will be worth s***.

Protege 5 = edge

Mazda3 = no edge (but I'd have to see it in person to give a final verdict)

Conclusion:

Protege 5 :D

7-10 years  Driving conditions are so bad in Los Angeles that you would be lucky if your car lasted 5 years. Plus I'm a huge car nut and normally don't keep a car longer than 2 years because there is always something I want on the market. The P5 may be an exception though. It will be my "beater" when I get my Z :)

I do like the look of the M3, but largest concern would be what has been touched on already... reliabilty. I learned the hard way to NEVER buy the first year of a new model. I bought a Mazda 6s at the beginning of this year and it was in the shop countless times over the past 6 months, finally I got fed up (so did my dealer) and I traded it in for my 2003 P5. I liked the 6 but it was just too much damn trouble.

I like my 5 just fine, it's the first car I have owned with tremendous aftermarket support! It's fun to drive too, like a luxery go-cart of sorts (thumb)

I've only made one regrettable automotive decision...'95 Dodge Stratus (ATX)...big mistake.

Regret buying a p5? hell nah!:D

The only regret I have about my Protege is that I couldnt get a used MP3 because they never sold any in Alaska. And that Laser Blue Mica wasn't available when I bought my car.

my only regret is buying my baby w/ no money down...

...never again, every car payment feels like a monthly down payment,

HAMBURGER!!!

Wayne Tek, who is that in your sig? is that a kpop singer? or Jpop? looks korean though...me likey. Oh yeah, and I love the new 3, and I can't wait for the sedan to show itself, It will make a badass mazdaspeed. I can see the lines of it in the hatchback...

Chic looks like BOA but not sure...yum....anyway....MP5 all the way...Wagons are the way to go....I used to have the Audi A4 and missed it so wanted to get the new A4 Avant wagon but its too expensive so the MP5 was the alternative...although it doesn't have HP like the A4, S4, WRX, Lancer Evo, etc....It is a beautiful car and has enough balls to do the job.....

If I walked on the lot today and the Mazda3 and the MP5 were side by side, and I could get a killer deal on the 3, or pay msrp on the MP5. . . Whats money when you love your car, the MP5 it is!

I used to have an A4 too :)

no regrets! not sellin it so don't have to worry about resale. unique car, great handling, good stylin. i'm one happy little clam!

No regrets at all. I love my P5. The only thing that would make me regret getting it would be if the 3 was turbo and/or AWD.

Besides that, I'm happy..

So true....I was thinking about selling out for a used M3...NOT P3, and I was upside down like sh1t on my P5! ahhhh...I'll keep it longer.

I love my P5 though. Great handling, women dig it. Cargo space a rack for my bike, I just wish it had more power...BTW the only reason why I was trading is because I've already put 72000 miles on it. 2002 Bought brand new. Go figure.
