Do you know what this might be????

OK, I just recently got my MP3, and so far it is pretty cool, but I had something really wierd happen to me the other day on the highway and I was just wondering if maybe you guys might know what is going on. I was doing about 75 on the highway yesterday and I went through a rough part of the road. This caused my car to jump around a little bit which I expected, BUT, as the car was bouncing around, I felt a strange, low rumble. There was a kind of a burbling / wheezing sound that lasted about 3 to 4 seconds seconds and then stopped. I was thinking to myself "What the heck was that??!!" Right away I let off of the accelerator to listen more carefully but I didnt hear anything else, I did notice an odd almost sulfuric type odor coming from the front of the car though. I am really concerned, does anybody know what that could have been?

you might just have fell asleep and hit one of those side barriers on the street with your tires which the noise was telling you to wake the ** up but for real can't help you
