last time I checked the sti wasnt 43k. The speed3 goes for around 25k. The new sti will go for around 31k since they are having a hard time selling them. 6k isnt all that much. You put that 6k into your mazda and you have no warranty and no awd so it will pretty much be useless below 40mph. sti FTW!

yesterday on nye i was asked by a friend whos got an sti why i got the madaspeed 3 instead of an sti..my reply was: my ride is @ least 10k less than yours, my ride imo looks much nicer interior and exterior, i dont remember the last time i launched my car, and from a roll your car is no faster than mine..
wow your very wrong, as far as looks thats just your opinion, 10k is not right, from a roll sti is definately faster. I did this race with my brother in laws 07 speed3. hes mesarec on this site(you can ask him). We did about a 30 roll and I pulled a couple cars on him. from a dig I didnt launch and he actually beat me off the line, and I still pulled a couple cars on him to about 100
If the STI were a girl at a frat party... she would be the one that is so fugly frat guys ask each other to cblock them if they get to get drunk enough to go there. That car is a good idea gone all wrong.
As for the price, I picked up my GT for 23.3k. The best I could get on an STI was 36k even. I know I know, "but they start at 35..." BLAH BLAH BLAH! I couldn't find any at the starting price, because as soon as you add anything... the price goes up. Either way..its still an easy 12-13k over the cost of a MS3. (Way out of my price range) Even more if you start adding stuff. Like 18" wheels are another $2000. I seem to remember them being standard on my MS3.

My buddy jim bought an 08 sti about 2 months ago for 31k, and they offer 0% financing! thats a great deal!
i've heard of this same thing - a guy i work with mentioned that they're knocking thousands of dollars off of the 08's to get rid of inventory. i'm guessing they'll sell even fewer 09's now that the wrx is quicker and the economy has imploded.
sti's are nice, that's for sure. i don't care for the way it looks, but at the same time it does look aggressive which can be fun. bulging fenders, etc. and the AWD gives them more capability over the ms3.
BUT they're more expensive than the ms3, though not as much anymore for the 08's, and the cop/attention factor may be huge. and the factory ECU setup includes a HUGE lean condition at the rev limiter that has been causing engine failures (pistons, con rods, etc). a few trips to rev limit and your compression is destroyed.
they are having a hard time cuz very few people like the new body style. U could literally go tomorrow and buy one for 30-32k with zero%. They are reliable tho. Alot of people were having trouble when they added mods but didnt have the computer tuned.

EVOs have 0% financing too. but im pretty sure that everyone is doing stuff like that cuz of the economy and all car companies are suffering. and by all i really mean all, even toyota. the best selling vehicle in 2008 was the ford f150, and that was probably only cuz it makes a good fleet vehicle, and every contractor has one.
if you have the money, you can find real steals out there, and now's the time to buy. you can price out a corvette with lt3 package to like $60k and some change, and still get like $8k off.

they are very popular around here... i haven't heard of one going for 31k... that would be a good deal. however...
it's just not the car we wanted.. i hate (HATE) the looks. the hatchback is just more awful looking. yeah, that's my opinion, but that's why i didn't want a subaru, or chev, or srt-whatever, as i was more interested in my opinion than anyone elses..
not really looking to beat everything (or anything) out there... at a more reasonable 10k over the price of a MS3, it still wouldn't have interested me.. in fact, if it were priced THE SAME it wouldn't have interested me... just not the car i wanted. is it more capable? certainly. is it THAT much more capable for the money, i guess to some it is.. but not me.

I have recently considered just scoping out an '08 STI. Don't get me wrong I love my speed. I just want to see what the deals are out there and obviously I could walk away because I'm happy. But my friend just purchased a 4dr wrangler, new. He gave a ridiculous offer back in early Nov. The dealer told him twice to come in and they'd give him what he wanted and they always backed away from the deal and the last day of Nov. they called him and said okay seriously we'll give you your deal and they did. I forget but I think he got 7K off the asking price. He was in a good situation because he didn't need the car so figured why not play the market.
the dealers are really at the mercy of the consumer. Especially being jan 09, you can get insane deals. I saw on the news that crysler was taking a month off at their plants, so you could probably get one for half price! As far as the whole speed3 sti debate, to each his own. The funny thing is alot of people say they hate the look of the sti but love the speed3. My brother in law has the dark grey(almost black) speed3, and my buddy jim has the 08 black sti. When they are parked next to each other, in person they look soooo much alike. When you compare them side by side the speed 3 almost looks boring with the stis fender flares and dual exhaust. But, to each his own
