Do test pipes create drone?

I have totally catless long DP and I have no drone or whatever you mean. The only I have is increased low-tone vibrations (gurgling-like) at around 1400-1600 RPM. But I do love them! (cool)
No resonance at 2500 at all.

Is your car Euro spec MS3? If so, it has a totally different CBE than the US model and might not respond to mods the same way as far as cabin resonance is concerned.

Yes, I double cheked that and you're right! We have different cat-back parts. EU cars have very big silencer, while yours just have another muffler. Thanks for the info!

YES. after 30k miles, i could no longer take the noise from the testpipe so i put my OEM one back in

If you are going to upgrade the DP and TP I would recommend getting a turbo fund started for when your K04 starts smoking. Poor turbo is a POS and Mazda doesn't know any better to switch them out...

With a major move coming in November, I've actually decided to put it on hold. I'm even contemplating returning the car to stock and just hope it holds together until its paid off. I enjoy modding and love the extra power, but not the headaches that will probably ensue if I go much further. I don't have the money right now to have to replace the turbo or any other major components should they go out. Especially considering this is my only means of transportation. If I had a beater to drive around it would be a completely different story. LOL

I do, and I also understand the difference between the resonance of sound and drone. But apparently they are one in the same in this thread

in this thread, resonance is what is being discussed, not drone. that sound made right around 2,500 rpm... resonance...

been considering a test pipe lately, my exhaust is stock at the moment. is this something i can just bolt on with a stock tune and no other exhaust mods? not too concerned with a little extra noise, but would it make a difference otherwise?

I have yet to read about any test pipe that doesn't fit the stock exhaust. The corksport is a larger diameter (80mm IIRC), but it comes with a donut gasket that will fit the stock exhaust. Personally, I was contemplating the SU and Corksport (stock size). Its relatively cheap, increases sound a bit, and while the gains are minimal (couple of hp), its better than nothing. So IMO its totally worth it, and is hassle free; meaning no tune, or other parts required. Just bolt up and go.

cool... thanks for the info. that's about all i'm looking for. i actually like the stock exhaust, but the TP seems like an easy and affordable way to get a little better sound and a little gain.

That's why I was looking. But I take a lot of road trips and don't want to deal with a lot of drone.

I just bought a Corksport TP and plan on installing soon. Will let you know what the results and if there is a drastic increase in cabin drone. If it is too much for you....it's in easy fix. Take it off and put the stock back on in a few minutes.

Nope. The O2 sensor is located right after the primary cat in the downpipe. So a test pipe will not cause any CEL to be tripped.
