Yeah it's a great first car but if your looking to race then a protege might not be the right choice for you since the car is not really that fast unless you plan on spending mucho $$$. If anything get an MSP they are turboed and are a good all-around car out of the box.

I want to race on the track like 1/4 miles and mayb some sloalums (sp sorry im feeling under the weather) and ill be doing a little street racin

Forget the street racing ,keep it on the track ,join the SCCA and run Solo events in your area , This is the safest way to enjoy your car . As a young driver you should be more concerned about get to know how a car handles in different situations in a safe enviroment . Dont become just another sastistic .

young teen drivers and fast cars dont meld well imo but yea for straight line speed your not going to beat a rustang or a camaro/trans am for the price. but ive seen lots of 16 year olds get fast rwd cars and wreck them with in a year. Personally i think that a fwd car is safer to learn on because you are less likely to do something stupid and spin out, though still possilbe. anyways my first car was a 1084 honda accord 4 door and i loved it.just make sure its a 5-speed.

protege makes a nice show car.. BUT u have to dump a assload of money into them to make them fast.
the mazdaspeeds are nice too . but again a assload of money.
if u are looking to go fast cheap. get a domestic.. OR a 93 eclipse or a early 90z late 80s 300zx turbo. -=)

and if u get a domestic make sure u kno how to whip doughnuts -=P
im totally joking.. be careful and safe.. just remember protege + fast + reliable = way too expensive for what u get -=)

I think that if your 16 and already looking for racing that you should go for the protege. Its slow, but you'll learn so much and be much better prepared for more power later on.
