Display won't power on. Stereo seems to be asleep as well. help?

I was trying to add another ground wire to my alpine 5-channel amp that sits under the passenger seat. I was doing this because I can't get rid of alternator whine in the signal unless I plug my IPOD directly into my amp (which is really weird).

Anyhow- While trying to attach the new ground wire I seem to have bridged the connections for the ground wire and remote wire (the one that sends a signal from the head unit when it receives power so that the amp is on only when the car is started). There was a spark and now my display in the car won't turn on, and there's no signal in the remote wire because my amp won't turn on.

I checked a bunch of fuses in the box under the hood and those going to my amp- all were fine. Is there a fuse in the headunit somewhere? what else could have done this. Am I totally screwed?

Should be fuses inside the cabin as well. Not sure if its on the driver or passenger side front footwells on the 3, but you most likely blew the cabin fuse. Do your map lights work? If not then you definitely friend the cabin fuse. On my 6 it's a mini-ata 15amp fuse.

Bingo! It was indeed a mini 7.5A fuse inside the cabin! thanks so much guys for directing me there. I thought there were only fuses under the hood. Thank god I didn't fry my headunit. All is operational again.

Once again this forum has saved me a lot of time, hassle and $$$. The members on here are the best.

Welcome. The only reason I knew what it was is coz I fried it a few weeks ago when replacing my crappy factory trunk light with a 28" led strip.
