I got an exhaust question... i been replaced the muffler in my P5 but thats it and it gave it a nice LOW growl but its not very loud it just has a low deep growl like i said, only when i give it gas does it get loud and deep. Im not satisfied with that. i was wonderin what you guys think would give it a loud deep growl all the time. I was considering taking out the resonator and getting High Flow Cat and getting a silencer. But i was told that b/c the P5 was only a 4 cylinder that if i take out the resonator it might just sound loud and annoying like a dirt bike. And i dont want that :( i was tryin to go for more of a muscle sound. N e suggestions?

what kind of exhaust do you have?
the dirt bike sound comes mostly from Hondas, it can happen in a Mazda but has a lot to do with your headers and exhaust piping...

I removed the resonator from my MSP and noticed absolutley no difference in sound.

If you were to remove the cats and the resonator you'd notice a large difference....very similar to a ricey honda. I think the P5 will sound deeper though due to the larger motor.

I have 2.25 inch exhaust with the resonator taken out, and the axle back mazdaspeed exhaust and it sounds great to me, not at all annoying like a dirt bike. I don't have a high flow cat though.

am i taking this correct, tell me if im wrong. It sounds like you are asking about an exhaust that will give you a growl at idle?? i have 3inch catless exhaust and even at idle its not going to make a huge difference no matter what you get.

I really don't know what to tell you to do. My 88 Mustang GT had MAC headers and Flowmaster exhaust and it sounded mean as hell. Then I had a 00 Celica GT-S with an Apex'i N1 exhaust, and it gave it a deep sound, somewhat loud, but not buzzy or ricey. It was, however, nowhere near as loud or lopey as the Mustang. A V8 and an I4 have distinctly different sounds and you can't really ever expect to get a "classic muscle car" sound without a V8.

Don't make a P5 sound like a V8 it will be the stupidest thing ever  and the only way you would probably achieve that sound would be to drop in a 5.0 mustang motor and get a flowmasters exhaust set-up.

Put on a Flowmaster 40 series Delta-flow muffler and a Hi-Flow cat. I trust their mufflers to give the best sound compared to muscle.

I dunno, with all the stuff that deckedoutmp5 did to his car he was loping pretty good before he retired it to the shop to be rebuilt. it was funny as hell getting surprised looks from muscle cars at stop lights :D
