Dimming mirror

I thought this had a compass but apparently not or at least I don't see it. This is on the GT w/tech.

It does not and I am ticked off that the nav does not either. I can live without a compass on the rear view mirror but no compass on a nav system! Come on!

Easy mistake to make jtl; I would have thought the same thing. Strange thing to offer as a stand alone option/accessory.

Now that I have had a day of driving and washing there are a couple of observations. In the rain, water does get under the bottom of the front doors but only in the first few inches. It leaves dirty residue, my 11 year old VW never did this. I am not sure if front mud flaps would correct this or not but it is not a good design. The lack of a compass pisses me off. The all weather mats are very difficult to remove to clean, nice that they don't slide around but I don't care. I am going to replace the "yellow" DRL's with LED's. I put the OEM hood protector on and it really looks nice but I don't know how much protection it will provide but time will tell. I also put the OEM SS bumper guard on and it looks very classy on my white car and I think it will help. All things considered it is a nice vehicle, not BMW or Audi quality but a lot less money. Did I mention the lack of a compass?

For what ever reason the tech package doesnt have the homelink with compass but the addon unit does. I had it installed on my sport and it has the garage door openers and compass.

This is hard to believe. You purchase a GT with the $1625 Tech Pkg and you get a mirror w/auto-dimming and homelink. You purchase the $295 auto-dimming mirror option and you get homelink and compass.

Was wondering where the compass was also. We just set the navi map to show N being on top so you know which direction you're going. Even my '07 speed6's flip up non-touch screen navi tells you what direction you're heading.
Hopefully TomTom or Mazda will update the firmware.

What color are the compass digits in the mirror?

I'll have tolok at the tomtom app in the car. I've bene using TT since 2007 and I could have sworn you can turn on a compass in the settings.

Interesting, I have a 2008 Mustang Dimming mirror w/Compass laying around in my garage. The mirrors are all made by Gentex and as long as there is a powere source I can swap them. Oh wait... but then I will lose the homelink. (doh)

Ah yes, would be so terrible to lose the Homelink. For without it instead of reaching up to push a button on my mirror, I have to push a button on my garage door remote control.

Is this omission (compass and homelink) unique to 2014 GT w/tech model?

It is also true for the 2014 Touring w/Tech model.

Apparently Mazda decided to save the $30-$40. Probably because the Tech Pkg includes navigation.

Which makes no damn sense, because the navigation doesn't have a compass either!

So wait, you are telling me that the tech package on the GT for the 2013 had the compass in the mirror? Now I am ticked off - this combined with the USB mp3 issue is seriously galling. Not nearly enough for me to not still enjoy the car, but it is now two items where the 2014 buyers get shafted compared to the 2013.
