Digital camera for $250-300?

You can fit almost 200 3MP pictures on a 128MB card on medium compression... and the price for that card is about $30... get two 256MB cards and I doubt that you'll ever fill them to capacity... and the price for each should be about $100...

As far as the battery... yeah, if your camera takes AA or AAA you can get them anywhere but their capacity sucks... with the proprietary battery you can get an additonal one to keep with the camera...

My Canon G2 lasts for over 300 pictures with one battery... and my Pentax Optio S lasts for about 200 pictures... plenty

I agree with the canon s230.
It's literally the size of a pack of cigarettes and you can take 640x480 video with it as well.
All in all its a very nice camera and with it being so small, its no problem to carry around. It fits in your pants pocket...

This Canon is a pig compared to Pentax... my sister has one and when she saw my camera she was very impressed with the size...

eh, too small, unless all you want is a point and shoot. i need a big lens, that's why i'll stick with my g3.

You guessed it... it is Point-and-Shoot... but it'll go anywhere meanwhile G3 won't... and it dakes pictures that are compatible to G3...

I have a g2.
But I also want to get a small one.
The pentax is nice, but I still like the s230 better.
It's the one I am getting next so that's why I recommended it.
You can get it for about 289 or so right now.

im going to melbourne, and i want to buy my camera before i get there, and duty free probably isn't an option here as far as i know.
on a related note, i went to look at them today and i think im going to get the a70. with rechargable batteries and charger, a 128mb flash card and a flash card reader it's going to be like 385+tax, not terrible, a little more than i wanted to spend but i think i can take it
