This morning, my clutch pedal went crazy. I can still drive car, but pedal is stiff to press down, and its like the clutch does not engage unless i let all the way off the pedal. Spoke to the guy who replaced my master cylinder a little while ago, and he said it sounds like the clutch has gone out on the car. I looked but did not see a how-to on replacing one, and have never tried to do it before. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

If anyone can let me know something today that would be great. If not, I guess I will just take it somewhere.

It might be the slave cylinder, make sure that is fine before you spend $1k on a clutch.

Is it squeeking? Try spraying some grease on the slave. If ur clutch went out i dont think it would be really stiff i think the pedal would drop to the floor. U can also smell if ur clutch is gone allot of the time

Took it to the shop this morning. They have confirmed that the clutch was bad on it. They are going to replace the clutch and the flywheel on it for me. Drove it to the shop and the pedal actually started feeling better as I drove, but clutch was still not catching until I would completely let off the pedal. Sucks, but oh well. They are charging me $840 for everything.

Its parts and labor. Clutch set and flywheel. About $560 is the labor.

Would of loved to do it myself. But don't have the tools or know how to do it.

Yeah labor has gone up to insane levels. I think the down economy has more people driving older cars and the demand for mechanical repair has gone up. The dealers are now charging $110/hr around here.

I still haven't done a clutch, and really want to just to have the experience under my belt. I figured mine would need to be replaced by now, but now it's looking like I'll be on to my next car before that ever happens.

Mechanic called today, car not ready... Found that the "fork" had broken too (part that the slave pushes on that pushes on the pressure plate). So that's another $60. Should be ready tomorrow though. but my total is not up to an even 900 for the repair.

Mine starting slipping yesterday only under boost though , Im in the same boat as you , wondering if I should do it myself :/

is it ok if I add a question to this thread?
My clutch peddal went to the floor. I found that the fork (clutch release lever) is loose which causeed the slave cylinder to extend out and I lost fluid. Why would the fork be loose? Has it just come out of place? Can I put it back in place without dropping the transaxel?

Thanks for any advice.

Got my car back, it drives like a dream now. WAY better than when I first got it. Clutch pedal is smooth to press on. Gear shift has been tightened up. LOVE IT!! Here is the breakdown of what they did:

Gear Shifter Bushings - 3.48
Clutch Set - 200.05
Flywheel - 80.65
Bearing - 31.95
Pivot Pin - 26.31
Clutch Fork - 34.86
Gear Oil (5) - 46.05
Brake & Part Cleaner - 3.42
Labor - 510.00

Grand Total after Taxes: 1001.73

on Mine the pivot pin had snapped. Out Mechanic said that there have been problems with the stock pins, and now they are replacing them with bigger / tougher ones. Here is a pic of my pivot pin:

Perhaps yours has broken too, so the fork is not sitting on it.

Turns out the fork is broken. I am going to go to the auto wrecker and see if I can pull one. I hope I can put it through the hole and I don't have to drop the transaxel.
Thanks for your reply and picture.

Glad it's back together, if they charged you for 5 quarts of gear oil they ripped you off even more, the tranny only holds 2.7 qts.
