Differential went...what are my options?

My cars at 126k. Do I need a whole transmission or can I just look/find a differential and have it put on? I've looked around and I've only found 1 transmission for $550. Not to mention $175 for labor.

Any ideas/help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Keep looking...I found my tranny for $100 from a guy I met on here. Its got 140k miles but it runs just fine and I'm in the middle of pulling my old one off as we speak. So I'd save myself the labor and just do it yourself if you have the tools/ability to. There's a "How To" in the how to section in the INDEX if you look through there you'll find it, I think its labeled as something like "tranny removal/LSD install" or something along those lines

if you have no experience with cars i def wouldnt recommend doing it yourself
but thats actually not that bad of a price IMO 550 for a working trans is pretty cheap

EDIT: I'm at a stand still on my tranny replacement. The tranny I got to replace my current one was in a engine fire...and I didn't think that the sensors would be a problem to remove off it, I went to take the speed sensor off and it came off in chunks, part of it is still in there melted in there, and the bolt that holds it on broke off at the head so I need to extract it.

Overall I think I'm gonna price rebuilding my messed up one that came off my car...I think the differential went out on mine too at 83k miles.

Any suggestions for myself or RaWrZie? I'm curious to know if I'm gonna have to replace the whole tranny or if I can just replace the differential....financially I mean would it be less hassle to just get a different tranny?
