My Wife currently has a CX-7 Sport with the standard gauges that look pretty orange to me. Its one of the few things I dont like about the car. Besides the blue back light are the GT gauges more red in color? Are the graphics of the gauges the same? Im considering purchasing a GT for myself.

My understanding is the guagges are identical save for the backlighting. The GTs is the ghostly blue.

The Graphics of the gauges look identical in pics to me. But the GT electro gauges seem more red to me. I guess Ill have to see them in person. Otherwise what's the big advantage to the Electro. GT gauges with the exception of the blue light over them??

none ...it just looks nicer.

They may APPEAR more red because blue is the opposite of orange in the color wheel. I know that sounds weird, but if you want to remove orange from something, you use blue to do it... so just the slight blue lighting may seem to make the lighting look more red than orange.

Love the blue electro gauges....make sure you have your brightness set correctly otherwise the orange is too bright!

Not to beat a dead horse but am I correct that the only difference between the sport and GT gauges is the Blue light that washes over them or is there more to it. If they both look the same what's the point of having the electro gauges?

The electro-illuminescent guages not only have a blue backwash (which is also used for incar lighting on the headliner) but also when the vehicle is off the guages dissapear. You can adjust them a little better too. I love the guages in the GT. Although I love the electro-illuminescent guages in the RX8 better... now THATS what real ellectroilluminescent guages should look like.

As a former RX 8 owner...I agree with you B1GHAM.... loved the gauges in that car! Go to the dealer at night and compare them I guess!

I guess you'll have to just visit the dealership at night and check it out! Compare the two and let us know!

Just an update. Was at the dealer for my second CEL in 2 weeks and looked at the GT gauges. You guys are right. They look identical to the sport except they have the blue light and dissapear when turning the car off. To me its rediculous that Mazda advertises the Electro lights as an upgrade that only comes on the GT. It's too close to notice a difference. Just make it standard across the board. They should probably offer different wheels or something to differentiate the higher model as well.

my one major gripe about staggering the models, if im payin 30K + on a car, and someone else buys the base model, not that i care in a snobish way, but i want my car to look a hellofalot differnt on the outside than one that is 10k less. Like ssteigss said, diff wheels, different accents, some extra exterior features (other than fogs/halos) etc etc.

I felt the same way with my Chrysler 300C. Eventually i realized I looked just like all the rental cruisers. Man, that hurt.

I wonder if the light can be added to the Sport model? Kind of like adding rear speakers to the MX-5 Sport. The wiring and plugs were there waiting for speakers...

Your question almost reminds me of back in the day where you paid extra for a math co-processer in a computer. Many of them already had the math co-processer already built in and if you elected not to pay for it they simply disabled them.

In answer to your question, I'll willing to bet the wiring is already there, but not sure what it would take to add the blue besides the blulbs.

You might try asking the service writer or, asking a mechanic if you can get his attention the next time you visit the dealer.
