Hi All,

Mazda 5 Furan 2.0L Diesel (Euro model)

My DPF light started flashing and after looking on a couple of forums I checked the oil level which is a fair bit above the Full mark. Apparently diesel is getting into the engine oil.
Obviously I can change the oil, but does anyone know what the root cause of this is?

Cheers.

You need to read the manual to help understand the function of the DPF.

Diesel in the engine oil on a Mazda 5 Diesel is normal. It occurs when the DPF process is not completed or interrupted and the excess diesel is returned to the sump to be mixed with the engine oil. It's a pretty crappy emissions solution. If you look on your dipstick you'll see the usual min and max markings and also a higher X marking. The oil level should not exceed the X level. If it does you need to change the oil. The engine oil level on a M5D will nearly always be above the max markings.

If your DPF light is flashing then the DPF is clogged and needs to be unclogged by driving it on a motorway with the engine revs above 2,000 rpm for about 15 minutes.

Ahhh, diesel particulate filter....Soon enuf, we'll be worrying about that stuff Stateside, too.
