Did I get sucked in?

I injured my knee at work the other day, so I spent the day on my arse watching TV. I got sucked in to one of these INFOMERCIALS about car products.

http://myauto.tv/tfs/

It's called a Tornado. It's claim to fame was improved gas milage, and also they quickly mentioned increased performance. On their site they show dyno gains by a bit.

This piece looks to fit in the position between where the intake hooks into the car. (HA, sorry I dont know my terms). It says it makes the air into a funnel/tornado, letting it get into the engine quicker.

They had some hot-rod magazine that rated the product as "best new accessory of the year" or something of the like.

Is this a joke? Would it have any benefit? It's $70, I've got money to blow!

I saw that about a year ago, and have been wondering about it ever since. It even says it will fit in aftermarket intakes. If you have money to blow, why not buy it and test it out? Be the guinea pig for the rest of us. You can do it!

SCC actually did 2 tests on that product. The Tornado and the Hurricane. Both showed no improvements in hp or tq, BUT surprisingly, MPG did increase...but very minimally.

Save your money and buy a real intake.

Nope doesn't work. A guy from Twinturbo.net (90-96 300zx forum Z32s) use to claim them to high hell and back. We never believed him and kept challenging him to provide proof. Well he finally broke down and did a dyno. Nothing, Nada, ZERO improvements what so ever. Waste of money.

Damn man don't watch TV when your home!!!! Just spend the time here, we provide all the joys you need.

The technology is real...air and fluid will travel with less resistance if it is spiraling or whatever....There are plenty of real world examples.

Take a football for example. You can throw it farther if you put some good spin on it. The same goes for a bullet (we all know what the inside of a barrel looks like right?).

Water-cooled CPU systems place springs inside the fluid lines to keep the water moving fast and evenly throughout the system.

Additionally, having a better mixture within your engine will help fuel economy.

However, the air that comes into your engine is going to encounter resistance at some point during its journey to the engine block which messes up this 'spiral' of air the tornado is supposed to create. The air still has to travel through your fuel injection system.

I don't think it's a hoax, I just think the gains are so minimal that it would be impossible to really test its affect.

it doesnt work AS ADVERTISED=scam

riight 10hp and tons of mileage increase. you could increase you're milage more by accelerating slower!! lol!

don't believe it joe, my friend had one on his accord, and the damn thing sucked. Well, figuratively it sucked, but it didnt seem to be sucking in any more air! LOL

Chandler:D

Ha, alrighty then

I was just hoping for a little bit more neck jerkin' throttle response :) Who cares about HP!?

And ah yes, I could not bend my knee out of the angle that I had it, or it was hell on earth for me. Trust me...2 days without the net = AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Throttle response, easiest and cheapest is Ebay intake.

Rule of thumb if it seems simple, adds HP! (big thing there) then it is false. HP aian't cheap.
