Did anyone install flywheel?

Hello, I am going to buy flywheel for my 02 Mp5. So, Which one is good? In addition, Will my engine gain more power or something? My friend did installed it, he said it is awesome.

I have the Unorthodox Racing 9lb flywheel. The revs go up and fall much faster than stock. It took me a while to get used to driving with the flywheel installed.

I have the indoigo 8.5 lb flywheel. I like it for free reving. It sucks for daily driving though,...... if you get in a traffic slow all you do is jerk around. You really notice it in the better rpms's from 4000 above. Make sure to do the clutch at same time. The easier reving is harder for a stock clutch to grab and hold onto.

can you elaborate more on the daily driving aspect. is it much harder to get the car going fron a dead stop(ie more revving needed) how is shifting affected? is the car slower or faster(compared to stock) if you punch the throttle from say a steady 2000rpm in 2nd gear. im very ibterested in a flywheel/clutch combo and need lots of info.

I have the fidanza flywheel and car seems fine in traffic, may have to be a bit lighter on the clutch from dead stop because I was used to reving the engine, but after a few days I got used to it.

I'm totally happy with it. Like i said it takes a bit getting used to and if you have to idle-drive around it is jerky. However as of starting off, i find that you have to ease the clutch off a little slower, and thats easy to get used too. As for acceleration, you will notice it, and the revs are way easier, but they also drop real fast, making speed shifting a little more tricky. But once you get it, its sweet.

you will not get any noticable gains in it. makes the engine more responsive to the throttle.

i have no trouble driving in traffic and normal driving. i thought i would get more gains out than i did.....i love the CM clutch though.

seems to grad better than the stock clutch......i drove an 02' P5 on saturday with factory clutch with 84K and you sould feel the difference. it is a harder to push than stock clutch (20-30%) maybe. i thought they felt the same after driving it for some time, but i guess i got used to it after driving dougs car.

hey if you have an extra 1K +- in funds go for it........

I work in a garage, and whenever i get into a stock protege and have to take it for a test drive, i cringe and the clutch that was put in there stock. All i know is that the price difference between a stock clutch and ACT clutch is pennies compared to the quality difference, but than again, i blew my first stock clutch out in 27000 km.(I was a little hard on that one.)

i was not saying the stock clutch is bad in any way. the P5 i drove on sat had 84K and the clutch still felt very good. i had my CM installed with 30K on my factory clutch and she still pretty much had all the meat/pad remainning. i was a little surprised. thought she would have been worn more.

my clutch at 30K just did not feel very good and i figured I would get a flywheel and might as well replace it while the tranny was out.

i guess the flywheel is nice but i am happy with the clutch.....just feels better than the stock clutch, but does the same job!

The bad thing about the stock clutch is the pressure plate. It is super weak, and that is how mine blew up, plus there were tranny issues also that were covered under warranty. I really enjoy my flywheel and clutch now. It actually grabs and there is no slippage, and she revs very nice. Probrably one of the better upgrades to do!

i have an Auto tranny...and i was thikning about getting a flywheel.....would this be a waste of money for the auto trannies???

also would it show a diff. to the car????

you cannot install a flywheel on an automatic transmission equipped car

lol...i feel retarded...i knew that...i meant the underdrive pulley....dont know y i thought this was that....lol

i guess i was really tired that night....lol

so yeah the underdrive pulley......whats the gains on that in an AUto...anyone know????

i was going to question your response when i saw this morning, autos have the trq-converter.

guess the underdrive pully will probably give same gains compared to 5-speed. less weight to spin means more power to ground.......

Power? Not much but a little less loss of it through the drivetrain.
Go to this thread for dyno results after a flywheel and clutchmasters stage 1 install:

lol, thanks Ryan ;)

I drove Ryan's car with the flywheel and clutchmasters stage 1 and it feels very good. I couldn't feel it being too much tougher to push in, but while accelerating it just felt tighter and the car more responsive. I also loved how the car just revs up real quick with that flywheel - no hesitation on that throttle.
