DG Motorsports lIp install....

sorry not a member too see --- maybe someone can copy and paste some in here -- :)[/QUTE]

Let's try these. Should give you a pretty good idea. There is a need for a couple more washers, but I do not have a bolt long enough at the moment. I'll have to divise a better spacer. It'll be solid, maybe out of rubber.

Looking from the inside of the fenderwell. There's the gap.

From the brake, outward. See the 6 washers. Seems insignificant, but without the firm mounting point on the back, the front won't fit well.

Once again, no one has called me....... but I'm not surprised.... we've done this before if you guys need a link to the thread here it is....

http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=69923&page=4&pp=15&highlight=urethane+lip

There should not be any problem with the fitment of the lips AT ALL..... And I'm not selling you this product for $160.00 because it does not fit.... I'm doing that to hook you guys up with a good deal...... It get's really frustrating on a personal level with you guys..... I know I shouldn't vent on the forum because it wil only come back to haunt me.... but boy do I hold back sometimes...... I'm not saying you guys don't know what your doing but if someone can't get there lip to fit right it may not be the lip it may be the person....... yes it should be a pretty easy install, I'm a girl and I installed the one in the test fit.... (you will be able to see pictures in the link I've provided)...... The thing that really makes me mad is the fact that I've been selling one here for awhile now, I do everything I can to make you guys happy.... and then people post things like "maybe there selling them to us for $160.00 because they don't fit" We would never do that............................

And did I mention no one has called me saying they were having problems or to ask how to get a perfect fitment..... I'm sorry I thought we had just cleared this up in the last thread about "poor lip fitment"

Amie

people dont be cheap!!!!!

if YOU cant get the lip to fit the way you like, get it installed professionally.(scratch)

dont get me wrong, im not accusing DG of selling the lips cheap because they dont fit, im saying that we shouldnt have to sand or trim anything once they get to us. i guess the thing that upsets me is that i (as well as many others) waited for so long for this to be made only to have to deal with ok fitment.

the reason i am making a big deal about it is that i already have it painted and installed which means that i cant trim it or the paint will be ******. even if i did trim it, i would be left with a gap in the wheel well.

another problem i have is accusing people of installing it incorrectly. it just a lip, it isnt rocket science. im sure 95% of the people on here can figure it out.

of course, i could always call and complain. but then i would have totake it off, box it up, pay to ship it back. then if i got a new one, i would have to pay to repaint it. i dunno, whatever......

one more thing would it be better if you guys used 2 screws on the inside of the wheel well instead of just one.... one on the top and one on the bottom.... and make sure you clean the area where you will be using double sided tape..... if your using it on an area where you have previously waxed your car...chances are it's not going to stick very well.......... also we have trimmed the area where we were having problems, I wouldn't assume that you would have to do anymore sanding but you know what they say about assuming...... Look guys I look at myself as a member of this forum, not as a vendor but a member......... Show some respect to get it and if you have a problem let me know, I've always been here for you...... Most of you know that..... That's all

It's not a matter of being cheap...It won't fit any better for the professional that it did for me...yes, they may be able to cover the problem up better but that doesn't solve the issue. I've been workin on cars long enough to know what I'm doing and am just pointing out my experience for the other DIYers out there. In the event it can help etc.

Aimee - I don't think anyone intended on blind-siding you, which is why I PM'd you :) I just wanted you to be aware of this discussion in case you receive any similar calls etc.

I agree. Thanks for addressing the thread. And you are correct about the additional screws. They help out a great deal.

Protejay5,
I know some of the things I've said may come off as being rude and I'm very sorry that you were one of the people who received a lip before we started trimming them..... I understand that you probablly did have problems installing the lip, and it's not that you would have had to call and complain but call and say "hey I'm having trouble installing this lip is there anything you can suggest" I would have said where is the problem at... you would have told me... I would have probablly asked for you to e-mail pictures....... I could have spoted your problem and said.... you know what you need to trim this area to get a better fitment.......**trim the area** then do a test fit make sure your happy with the fitment and then get it painted.....

yes we did make a mistake on these parts by not trimming that area and I'm sorry but we have since corrected the problem.....

Sorry to use you protejay as an example but I just people to know that they can always contact me to let me know somethings not fitting right..... and we will try to make it better.....

I've been happy with the install, fit, and overall quality of all the DGMS products I have on my car.

After a little trimming, I installed mine with one screw in each wheel well, one screw in each opening in the front and a small bead of silicone on the top part where it sits near the grill. It's been a few months now, never moved. Great product, thanks DGM.
Just wondering if the person above had a problem with the lip being to long (looks great in the pictures) did you have to use washers?

Sorry Amie -- i didnt contact you cause i knew someone else already did

Actaully one person did contact me Seminoleman thanks to him and Ben for pointing me to this thread........

I just have two screws in use at this point... I used the factory mounting spot and bolts from the old lip. I trust Mazda more than myself for mounting points. :D

i never intended to be an asshole, but from my point of view the picture sucks. when i test fit it, it seemed fine because i slipped it on and pushed it up and it seemed to fit good. i couldnt get the full idea because i couldnt get it to stay all the way up against the car and stand back and look at it. once i got it painted, and it was all the same color then i realized that i had some issues with the fitment. i know i could easily go and fix it tomorrow but i cant because it is already painted and i dont feel like paying another $100+ to get it repainted. i never meant this as a personal attack on you amie.

Yes I did use a small rubber washer, but only on one side. You can't see it if you don't know it's there.

Thanks again Amie, great product.

something interesting -- i havent made it to the shop yet -- but i still have the lip on the car and if you look at the pics i posted on some of the gaps -- well get this -- i have not changed anything yet but it seems some of those gaps have deminished just from the day time heat and night time cold --

can urethane shrink like that all by its self ?? -- just curiuos -- thanks

yeah urethane is an elastic material. it can shrink and expand (to a degree) with temperature changes. its also really important to let the lip form once its out of the box, I'm actually planning on letting it sit for 3 or 4 days taking it out to get a tan (just in the sun) and then installing it unpainted for a week before finally getting it painted and final mounting...

there are some small gaps with the fitment of my lip but nothing to complain about...its not an OEM part so its not gonna fit like one.

Also, i degreased the bumper, and I degreased the inside of the lip AFTER sanding with some seriously gritty sandpaper, but double-sided tape just does not seem to want to stick completely.

Anyways, I got my lip painted and on tonight so we'll see how she holds up...

on a side note, it was kinda disappointing to be told the lip needed body work done to it in order to not have a plethora of pits in the paint, but its doesnt look so bad from more than a foot away, and no one is really looking that close...except me (lol2)

mines still on the car not painted yet -- almost looks good black -- lol

i still have not changed anything and like i said earlier -- i reall did shrink and it will be a better fit once i get it cleaned up and put tape in the other spots than just the front --

can t wait for the sides to get here :)

could someone post a pic if they got a good fit of the spots where they put tape or screws at...........i seen previous pics, but this is a seperate batch of lips.
