Detailing your 6/MS6 discussion thread

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Wizards yet. Wizards has some pretty fantastic products. I've been using them for years on all my cars. I think the best thing about them is even after a long day of driving with all the bugs and crap that i get on the front, I can just wipe it off. Sorry I can't write a huge review like Boosted lol but look them up. Just search "Wizards Products". Can't miss it.

No too. All wax "replacements". Which I like.

What is the best thing to use on some deeper scratches? I have a few under the driver's door handle and a small rust spot on the roof.. I need to get them out they look awful..

How deep are they? Can you catch your fingernail in them? Proper method will depend on how deep.

ay boosted... wat would u recommend worked well for swirl marks from zaino.. which product(s)?

How bad are your swirl marks? You may be fine with a cheaper polish to get rid of them, then seal and wax your paint to protect it.

3M has a dark colored car swirl remover that most auto parts stores sell. I've used a crappy orbital to apply it and with a little work it still made a huge difference on a black car, so you may want to check that out first.

Yeah I can barely catch my fingernail in them. I'll try to take some pics tonight and post them up..

Ok, if you can catch your nail in the scratch then "detailing" isn't going to help you too much. If you can catch a nail that means you are probably through the clear and into some level of the base, and potentially through the base. Machine polishing (by hand is out) can reduce the appearance of minor scratchs, but cannot correct them without a strong risk of ruining the paint. And you mentioned some of these are on the door handle which is probably painted plastic. Which means your options are even further limited. Machine polishing plastic body parts is a very delicate process. If you can post pics that would help, but I wouldn't feel good about giving you any product advice without seeing it.

That product is full of fillers which is why you noticed a reduction in swirls.

And amilliems6, I don't really understand the original question. Did zaino cause swirls or are you asking if zaino will remove swirls? You say swirl marks FROM zaino which leads be to believe you got swirls after using zaino. If that is the case the problem is you. lol Little more info please.

well like said above, depending on how bad they are, depends on what product u use.. from Zaino u would need Z-PC Fusion Dual Action Paint Cleaner Swirl Remover, but i honestly would go with the Poorboy's SSR 1 2 or 3 and then some good polishing compound and wax..but post some pics up.. that way i can see what u would need.(popcorn)

Thrillride has quite the background on detailing, and I'm glad he jumped in here. He's been a big help in my quest for expanding my detailing equipment and supplies.

Glad to know that 3M is full of fillers, good thing I am fresh out of it. I've been using the Klasse All In One polish on my MS6, but only after a good clay and wash beforehand.

i just wanted to see what type of products people used to remove swirl marks and give the car a good clean look.

amillie, I'm not sure how familiar you are with general detailing/polishing, but I don't necessarily know if throwing something (like Zaino) on your car is the best answer. Check out some of the links in the detailing section regarding general car care, then decide how much you want to get into and you may find a better product or process to help with your issue.

Also, I like some of the how-to's on www.autopia.org for things. I disregard the product plugs, but his advice is quite useful.

Ah! gotcha.
Well, Zaino isn't big in the correction department. They do a much better job at hiding. The only correction product they have is Z-PC. However it has some fillers as well. So after using it you need to clean the surface to be sure your desired results have been achieved. And, Z-PC is not a strong product, it will only handle minor imperfections. Zaino is a very popular brand because it is layerable and it does a good job at hiding. So if you have minor issues, and you don't have the ability to correct the issues, then zaino's line of sealants (They call themselves polishes, but they are not!) are an option. I prefer to correct the issue rather than hide, as do my clients, so Zaino doesn't make much sense for me (not cost effective). But it might work for your needs and ability.

Just updated our sticky for detailing product and how-to thread in the detailing section. Has tons of proudct links and some good how-to info. You all should come over to the detailing section.

Thrill, I set this up as a quick stop for detailing. In more detailed settings, the detailing forum is much better suited for discussion. Thanks for comin' in here to add some expertise!

so what would u recommend instead of zaino

It depends on the severity of the issue. You mentioned that they aren't bad but do you have a pic you can post? If it is minor, there are some products that you can use by hand with decent results. You said you used nufinish, which again, is full of fillers, so after a couple washes you are back to the same issue. Meg's scratchX is actually a decent by hand product and can work for minor issues. It contains abrasives that will actually remove minor swirls. It's cheap and you can pick it up local so I'd start with that if I were you. The Zaino Z-PC is fine to try by hand too, but it's a litte more $$ and you'd have to order it. There are some others I'd mention, but if you don't have a good machine to use, I'd start with something like the Meg's and see how that goes.
