Why not both?! Kidding aside, I own a 2009 Mazda3, 5MT and a Mazda5 AT. Yesterday we took a day trip and loaded 2 coolers, 6 foot long overhead tent with the cover and 4 bags of food and 2 adults, 1 kid. Easy and the drive included mountain turns, twisties and inclines, it was fun.
After we unloaded all the gear and the kid, we put all the seats up and took 5 adults to dinner, other than the person in the 3rd row, everyone had nice leg room and everyone had lots of shoulder/hip space.
You can't beat the utility of a family mover and grocery getter of the Mazda5. But you can't beat the excitment and fun of handling of the Mazda3.
