Dealer's rust proofing, etc. package any good?

I am getting a P5 soon and I am offered the 4 way protection for CAN$799 from the dealer. Is that a good deal? I heard the protection has life time guarantee. I've also heard it is cheaper elsewhere but I only have limited time in the city (I'm from the northern Canada area) to get it done or else I won't be able to get it done otherwise (until much later). Should I get the package?

I say, save it! use it to buy springs or intake.
And, take care of your car by yourself, as long as you take good care your car, you won't need that package. Someday your car will get rusts anyway.
so why bother to pay dealer for nothing? :)

Do a search on the word "rust" or "proofing" - there was a thread with really good info about it.

Where in northern canada are you?

I wouldn't bother if i were you.....they tried to pressure me into taking it...sounds like a scam to me.

I would get it oil sprayed once a year if i were you.

Probably got suckered!

Well, I just negotiated the deal on P5. Comes to 28000 with A/C, leather, moonroof, polished alloys, cargo tray, cargo net, roof rack, 4 way protection (rust, paint, seats, undercoating), 3M protection, tinting, and all the GST and other taxes.

Unlike you guys, I don't have the advantage of looking over dealer's lot to negotiate the price. I originally didn't want all these extra protection stuff thrown in but I need the vehicle fairly soon and AS I WAS TOLD this is the only special edition model they have ready to be delivered before I go to pick it up.

I probably could have gotten a better deal, knowing what the invoice price is, but oh well

Congrats on getting the P5!

Is the 3M protection that film of plastic on the front bumper?

I didnt know leather was available in canada!

Rust proffing? so you're telling me that for $800 a dealer can do something to keep your car from rusting? Dontcha think the factory would figured out how to do that by now?

I'm *sure* they'd be interested in hearing about that to avoid any warranty claims on their corrosion warranty, now wouldn't they?

Verdict? Crap.

The rust proofing thing sounds like a total SCAM. go to
www.carbuyingtips.com and read up on all this stuff...
i know that you are in a hurry to purchase a car...but if you're
about to spend 28k on a car...i think it is worth an additional
half hour of research before throwin' down your money. To me..
it just seems like that dealer is trying to get the best of you and your wallet

They offered me the same sh**...I mean stuff, when i bought my P5. Believe me it's not worth the price. If you take relatively good care of your car, you won't have any problem. Also,be careful of those "extended protection" plans...they can be pretty expensive and not always worth it. They make big profits on those things.

make sure you check the fine print where it says you must take it to authorized service center to have the protection application maintenance done(at your cost) or the coverage/product will be voided. More than likely it will say something about annual or bi-annual?
t-rust me on this one.

totally rip off , cuz i bought it and only covers the areas it been treated with and it gets the car with dirt stuck on the rust proof coat. i had a hard time wiping all that s*** off to have my door jams nice and clean. my 2 cents peace
