Dealer won't fix brake rotor hub rust

If you don't want the rust to come back MAKE SURE you remove all of the rust. Then after removing all of the rust clean them off with rubbing alcohol (residual rust dust painted over will rust from the inside). Next, paint sticks best to primer, and primer sticks best to metal (why do you think primer exists?), so primer them before you paint with the correct primer. Next spray a couple of coats of high-temp paint and you're done. They will never rust again. Do everything right the first time or do it wrong many times, it's up to you.
Good info. Could you please tell me the exact paint you used and where you purchased it?

mine has rust. always did. but i dont give a s*** so its stil there. there just brakes the rust is not gonna hurt anything.

It's ugly. It wouldn't hurt either if there was rust on my side panels but I don't want it there either.

rust does hurt and eat away at the car. BUT.... it will take 50 years!!!!!

mine stays too.! until i get the funds to make it a show car. which could be an eternity!

thats a diffrent story.
With the Racing Hart wheels being so open (as opposed to full coverage hubcaps or any other full coverage wheel) the rust shows through a lot and it's really ugly. If I couldn't see the rust I wouldn't care, but I can and it's ugly and I don't want to see it. It annoys me and others have pointed it out too. Moreso, I refuse to believe that Mazda could not have prevented the rust by rust-proofing the hubs.

I want to see these zinc plated rotors that your talking about. My service writer is hell of cool so I may be able to get these. Let me know what to ask for and I'll look into it.

I got some paint yesterday. I'm going to fix mine up the weekend I think.

My fronts are fine, but my rears....are not

take a look

And to make it worse, eventuually the rust goes from the hubs, to the cali's. It's like a fungus!

Just do it guys and you won't be decieved. I finally had the time to do it last week-end and it's so much better. The wheel is much more attractive if you do it right it'll last.

I'm doing the other side this week-end and I think I'll get the camera out and get pics to write an How-To. It could be usefull for ppl who are still affraid to mess with their brakes. It's so easy...

told the dealer about the rust and they said that they will fix it no problem.

but instead of going there and waiting all day to pick up my car, i did it myself in 30 minutes.
i also did mine black, which the dealer wont do, they only do silver.

Can you take a pic of that? I want to see it. Soon as I plug my flat my black wheels are going back on.

lol, i'm running out the door as we speak to go to San Francisco, but as soon as i'm back i'll take a shot.

I haven't done it yet (I plan to soon just busy). I just know a lot about steel preservation in regards to rusting because I was on a Navy ship and the whole thing is steel. You can't even imagine how much preservation you have to do when salt water is spraying constantly over it. I believe people are using a high-temp paint (probably because of the heat generated by the friction on the brake rotors when braking). Just go to the store, tell them what you are doing and they should point you to the right kind.

I just bought paint, primer, and sandpaper. I'm doing this tomorrow. Is it easy to get the rotor off the car? I'm one of those people afraid to mess with my brakes. It's like a couple bolts and the caliper slides off, right? One way or another I guess I'll find out soon. :)
