Dealer sold me a cold air intake for my ms3.

Did you see this from a post above? The numbers are for the MS3 CAI/exhaust:

got quote today.
GRMS-8M-L29 = $819.02
GRMS-8M-L26 = $1533.85
there's more... they need your VIN to order it, just 1 for each ms3.

This gibes with other posts elsewhere, including from a crazy guy who says he went ahead and ordered both. Maybe your parts guy can actually check out the prices if you give him the part nos.

An aftermarket vendor (Street Unit . com) is offering MS-CAI as well, at $780, and appears to have lots of info on it.

SU had another CAI for a 345 or something also...I wonder what the difference is...

Ok, well i checked with my parts guy, and the part numbers did come up in the mazda dealerlink. however, the availability was not listed, and the price was not listed. all it showed was it was the mazdaspeed3 intake, and exhaust. hopefully these parts will be ready in the coming weeks.

The CPE CAI on the MS6 has gotten good reaction. Don't throw CELs or anything, hence the name "Xcel". I imagine the big differences are 1) the type of filter used (MS uses a "dri-filter), and 2) no integration of the CAI into the overall warranty like you'd get if you bought the MS and had it installed by the dealer.

Question is whether the value of this is anywhere near the $500-$600 premium (including install). I willing to bet that most will say "umm, no." Which could mean we'll see prices come down on the MS-CAI before too long. I'm dying to find out who's making 'em, since it's a US manufacturer. We won't know until somebody gets a close look at one.

They're crazy as hell if they think anyone is gonna pay 800 bucks for a CAI and 1500 for a catback exhaust.

I'm not 100% sure on the catback part but, it wouldn't surprise me one bit.

I think i'll spend 800-900 on a catless turboback exhaust, 350 on the Xcel and save the rest for something else.

I don't think Mazda will have the price set that high. But I have seen dumber things before. Even if they do come out with high prices it won't take long for them to drop the price when people don't buy the stuff.

i agree completely. it would be completely stupid on their part to price their own products so far out of the market. it would not surprise me if certain dealers sold it at 75 and 80 percent markup, but im sure that would only be a handful.

I think Mazda is serious about this price. This is the MSRP listed at an aftermarket vendor as well as at various dealers and discounted just $40:

http://www.***************/MAZDASPEED_Cold_Air_Intake_p/su-s8ml29.htm.

If it gets discounted, I'm thinking they mean for it to settle at $600-$650 b/c it becomes part of the car's overall warranty. If they lower the price much more than that, I suspect they'll make it a Green warranty item. The CAI for the MS6 (MSRP is $375) and has the Green warranty and not the Blue. The Green warranty is 12 months / 12K miles.

It's automatic whenever you refer to another site I guess. I thought it was just for competing forums. The URL was for Street Unit's site where they have a lot of stuff for the MS3, including Mazdaspeed stuff that is not available yet.

Alright, well my parts guy went through every channel he had on obtaining mazdaspeed3 part info. The prices originally posted are MSRP for those parts. Dealer cost on the intake is just under $500 and in the $900 range on the exhaust. I really can't believe Mazda would price them so high.

One more thing. The Mazda warehouses have the parts on order and are expected to have them at dealers early February.
