ddogg777's forged F/I MP5 project

KzA, the machine shop cost came to $420 for all that I listed. Magnaflux is what they put on the metal to see if there are any hairline cracks. They use a blacklight to highlight where the magnaflux collects.
Any thoughts on hot tank dipping? Should I spend another $50 and get it cleaned that way?

any updates? I can't wait till this puppy is up and eating modded evo's and looking good doing it too.

Yep, I got my pistons, pins, rods, and bearings coated with Techline coatings. Ooh, they look and feel slick! I just prepped and painted the block last night so I need to get a camera and start taking pictures.

The IHI VF22 has the largest potential for peak horsepower in the IHI Family. In other words, in the IHI model range, the VF 22 supports the highest boost levels. It is capable of running up to 25 psi. Because it is a roller bearing turbo, turbo lag is minimal...the boost comes on around 3300 rpm. Expect to max out the VF22 somewhere in the 400-450 hp range.

That was a quote from scoobytuner.com

Here's a question to anyone who has chased the main and head bolt holes on the block. I starting tapping the mains and I noticed it got really tough after a few turns. I didn'tt want to ruin anything so I backed it off. I know I am using the right tap for the mains (M10 x 1.25mm) and heads (M10 x 1.5mm), but I am also afraid of my Harbor Freight quality dies and taps (brand new though). Anyone know how it should feel?

Hmm, I should have been boosted months ago but I decided to go for even more power and let Beau at MAM design his thumper kit on my car. As soon as I get my CP pistons cut (they are taking forever!) I will be able to do the build and see if the bearings fit.

there are a number of people on here who have talked about them... so the matter is just getting someone who has put them on. I'm still a ways out before I'll get around to bearings... but if I get around to it and no one else has... then I'll report back! I don't figure on being up and running though until around March.

what did you have changedon the CP pistons? or are you just getting the standard CP pistons that MPI and MAM have been using and they are just simply taking a long time to get made?

His piston's will be here late this week or early next week.
CP is just busy right now. It's the race season and everyone is ordering parts for there projects.

I'd be ordering the parts too and waiting as well if I had the money right now :). Eventually though! MAM and MPI will both be getting my money this winter.

Excellent choice (MAM)!

CP has been very busy, Beau has some beautiful Oliver rods just waiting for the pistons.

Anybody have any idea as to the best clocking and rings gaps for file fittings rings on this setup? (CP pistons, Oliver rods, obvious boost!)

Beau?? :)

Thanks!

Steve

Steve,

On boosted daily driven motors I'm a fan of the Total Seal TS1 package with the Gold oil support rails. It has a Moly top ring and a GAPLESS second ring.Keep in mind this setup is NOT a complete gapless ring package.

this car may become a race days only driven vehicle by next year when it is rebuilt... so I don't know if that matters any for the ring selection.

I take it the higher performance ring packages you file fit to have no ring gap at all? Or is that a mis-interpretation?

What is the benefit/detriment of gapless?
