I cleaned the carpet really good. Before any piece wen't back into the car I cleaned it also. After I finished the car looked and smelled brand new.

I've found several opinions on carpet/mat cleaning. What method did you go with?

My wife has a steamer (for some reason that sounds gross). I steam cleaned it then vacuumed the hell out of it. I really didn't need to do anything more.

As long as it's nonabsorbant or closed cell foam, you're ok I think.

It won't add any weight, but it can make for a quieter ride and a louder stereo by keeping the music in and the road noise out.

I'd say nice and thick on the firewall actually. That's a real trouble spot.
I believe it is (nonabsorbant), but how can I tell? And yes, that is part of the appeal for me - extra sound insulation without the extra weight. It may not work quite as well as the dynamat, etc, but it will be better than how the car is currently. Good point about the firewall, I'll keep that in mind, thanks. :)

I'm no audio expert, but I'd say:
1. Spill some water,
2. Try to soak it up with the foam.
3. Look for spill, if you can no longer find it, the foam is absorbant!

:D

Yeah these are 6.5". Hence the speaker adapter.

Does the 6.5" speakers sound better than upgrading the stock 5x7's to 6x8's? and if so what 6.5" speakers would you recommend??

This is going to turn into listen to different brands and find what you like....and that's cool. I learned alot based on what I researched and I hope others find something useful in this thread. That being said.....search a little. You will find many topics about this very subject. Dig in and enjoy.

I would start here: http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123655247&page=2&highlight=6x8

Sorry, didn't mean to thread jack ya there. I was more interested in why people put 6.5"'s in the front instead of 6x8's. Just cearious cause I am upgrading my speakers soon.

Eerrrrrrkkkkk.....crash......hit a snag.

False floor fits great. The amp box/rack is good and is going to it nice. The box simply won't work. I don't know exactly what happened when I measured for fitment. I guess when your dealing w/ a square box and a round hole it's easy though. Looks like I may be fiberglassing after all. Also the box was a little too tall. I wan't the false floor to fit as close to original height as possible. Looks like (after much measuring, staring and scratching my head) that it is going to be 3" above original height. So I will keep my floor and amp box the same and redo the sub-box.

I will keep everyone posted as progress is made.

He did render the template in AutoCad and punched it out in the shop, but he got the original from T-Star's site: http://www.protege323.com/ Worth signing up just for the "how-to" sections (plus T-Star is just a cool dude).

That is a damn good price. Myself, I am going for the "dave special". Free, laser cut in the shop at my work. s***, I got em to powdercoat my wheels for free. I'm hoping they'll do some of these for me.......

Thats a hella good price. I couldn't make them out of steel and sell to others for under $10.00. And that would be a "help a brother out" price.

question to all....... does anybody think instead of the synthetic carpet padding, foam carpet padding could be used? more sound absorbant? less? i have a ton of foam
