Dashhawk question

Received my DH today. I plugged it into my '07 Speed3 port, it lights up (even without the key on?) but doesn't prompt for anything with the ignition on. Blank screen.

Is it:

1) defective?

2) in need of an update?

3) did I forget something?

It's a new unit from Amazon.com but I can't find any troubleshooting steps on the provided CD.

Suggestions?(braindead

Did you set up the PIDs to monitor?

Start with the update, the old CD has an outdated version

At least you got yours. I ordered mine from Protege Garage and it was shipped 8 days ago and still nothing.

Maybe there is an update you need to get from the MSD website?

did you try plugging it in after you start your car? Not that i'm saying it will do anything at all, just wondering if it will turn on and function. My DH worked without the updates, so I don't think that is the issue.

Did you turn the key? It's normal for the DH to power up when initially plugged in, even with the key out. It'd turn off within a minute. Make sure that everything is plugged in securely, then turn the car on. It should ask you to accept a disclaimer to not use the device while actually driving...something like that. Press enter to accept, then you should get the normal operating screen. If your screen is just blank, it might be defective.

Haven't set up anything yet as I was anxious to power it up. I did read the instructions and tried every way possible to get something other than a blank screen with no results. Even tried it in the wife's '03 Maxima, nothing. It is a GenII and I was curious if anyone else has had any issues with this product.

Call up MSD and tell them what you're seeing...they'll probably replace it without any hassle

Called MSD and the tech said if there was no prompt, it must be a defective unit. He also said even though they would relace it, I would probably have a faster turnaround with my seller.

True. Amazon.com will reimburse me for any shipping costs and is sending a replacement. Originaly paid $249 w/free shipping. Great service from them so far on all purchases. Thought I'd pass that on...

It's defective. When I first got mine last year, without updating any device software (had outdated versions), it would atleast power on and display the splash screen and show generic PIDS..

You've installed the firmware properly right? I had a similar problem. Tried mine on a Isuzu Rodeo, didn't work, reinstalled software and tried to setup with the Rodeo, still didn't work (found out wasn't compatible), so when I went to reinstall it on my CX7, had the same problem you are having. After reinstalling the software and firmware, everything was OK.
