dash rattle of death!

I've got a little noise problem of my own with the plastic covers that surround the steering column...there's a slight gap between the upper and lower halves right behind the wheel that rattles when I'm on rough roads or hit speeds above 45mph. I've tightened all the screws/fasteners but it won't subside. Looks like I'll need to implement something to cover the gap.

THAT irritation is the rubber (plastic, whatever) shroud itself. It's rubbing something (maybe itself) when the car vibrates enough, and causing the noise. I had that problem since the car was brand new. The top and bottom pieces don't seem to snap together too well. In fact when you hit the rough road that causes the noise, pressing down on the top of the shroud will make it stop. Right now I've got some butyl lined between the pieces and it helps some, but doesn't fix it. I'm not sure what a good thorough solution would be. I haven't tried it, but cutting a thin piece of closed cell foam to completely line the inside of the top and bottom shroud pieces might do the trick.

Yeah kvn, I do have to push it down to get it to silence itself. What gets me is that it doesn't take much pressure to close the gap and shut it up so I assume it'd be a simple turn of a screw or two and I'm gravy... not the case though.

massive blobs of butyl! gak that s*** up! man, we are an ocd group of car owners, eh?

+2 on the drowning out method. im lucky enough that i dont frequently share my cabin space with passengers so if i want loud music, i get loud music hahahaha

i only have 9k on my car and already have subtle rattles from top to bottom and left to right in my dash. depends on the speed i'm driving, the temperature, and if the dash gremlins are asleep or awake. i've already given up trying to find them, i just pretend my car is whispering sweet nothings to me.

I have it as well. Dealership basically told me to take a hike, and as a precautionary measure told me whatever it is, it wouldn't be covered under the 3year/36k mile warranty. :0(

I have started to notice this problem too. It started off very subtle but it's gotten extremely annoying. I'll try the butyl fix to see if that helps.

sure it isnt the plastic where your windshield wipers are? that was the case for me..in the cold, it would rattle against the windshield. i got some Moisture Sealing electrical tape by 3M, lifted the plastic, and tape across the windshield

Hey, guess what? I have dash rattles too! Only happens in the cold weather, and I usually don't notice it (drown out method). Rattle goes away as it get warmer outside, but then when it gets hot, my shifter gets stuck (the up/down motion of going into reverse and back). But that's a whole other topic. My car is lucky it's so much fun...
