Dang! 2 Cats, 2 Resonators & 1 muffler?

I had a different exhaust tip intalled on my 07 Mazda3 today so I looked under the car while it was on the lift. No wonder the car is so quiet! Two cats, Two resonators and one muffler. I asked Mike (muffler shop owner) about replacing what looks like a conventional oval muffler with a Magnaflow muffler to get a touch more noise out of the car. It's to dang quiet!! I don't want a Honda, fart can, ricer exhaust but a little noise would be nice. I let Mike drive the car, he's been thinking about getting a commuter too. When he left the shop and went down the street, I heard ZERO, ZIPPO exhaust nosie from the stock exhaust. He suggested instead of installing another muffler, just replace the oval muffler between the first and tailpipe end resonator with a piece of pipe. He thought that the other stock exhaust components (two cats and two resonators) would still keep it pretty quiet and give me the little bit of noise I'm looking for. Anyone done this?

im with ya bro i have an 04 n/a but i still want to remove 1 cat both resonators and leave the stock muffler...maybe not that much sound to it but i should free up a lil power and relieve some of that back pressure. Maybe i could go go the cheap and a bit rice way and put on cherry bomb(glasspack)...lol...i doubt id do that i have more since than that!

Just have Mike do a 3" pipe back, removing everything except one resonator. That'll do it.

lol... trust me its loud (on a n/a anyways) i have an 04 s model with a thunder header and a draxas cat back with a race pipe (no cats one resonator and one muffler) 2.5" from collector back... and its to loud sounds nice and burbly and deep at idle or less then .25 throttle but once you get onto it my exhaust turns into a trumpet and i absolutely hate it... i have a vibrant high flow cat i am waiting to install once the rain clears up... if i only had a garage

I am sure the loudness of your setup is mostly due to the headers.

yeah...don't take to much off. I have 2 cats and one muffler, no resonators...and my car is loud as hell.....which has kept me from purchasing a header....girlfriend hates it as it is.

only thing is the turbo acts as a semi resonator...so the speed3's may not be as loud.

I want to make my MS3 LOUD ...but i want to be able to get it inspected next time without having to put stuff back on....any suggestions?....
