Damn Alpine!

arrgggg...Im a bit frustrated. I bought an Alpine head Unit like a while ago when I used to work for a specific electronics store , not gonna say who, but anyways I'm finally getting around to installing it and now Im having trouble finding an XM tuner for it. I resorted to ebay but they are selling for the same if not higher than the suggested retail price for a used unit. What the Hell??? I have a Pioneer FM modulated right now, but since I'm gonna put in the Alpine deck I want just the tuner. So now I'm screwed. From what I have heard is that there are rumors that Alpine is getting rid of XM. Has anyone heard of this? If this is true this sucks! I love my XM! ANyways, if anyone has got some suggestions please feel free to let me know. Thanks!

Jaime

try and contact your alpine rep. i dont see why alpine would ditch xm...sat. radio is the best thing to everhappen. it will be huge, its already growing at a tremendous rate...

No, Alpine is ditching RF modualed FM peices. Although any installer of them knows the tuner is the same peice. They also are killing off Fm modualted CD changers.
Again its the same CD changer anyways.

You should be able to get the tuner for an ai-net alpine no problem. What is the part number your looking for?

Something doesn't sound right here!

Alpine has official stopped producing the XM tuner, both RF and direct. This is due to the very low demand for it due to the hugh popularity of the Delphi SkyFi unit. All is not lost though Alpine has contracted with Delphi for them to make a direct tuner module that will plug in to the Alpine head units just like hteirs did, but it will be at a lower price point. The new unit with also be adaptable to other radio with adaptors. Basically GM will own the XM market for subscriptions and hardware through Delphi and Hughes, but ony until Fox buys Hughes later this year or early next.

I've had the same problem trying to find one of these tuners for a co-worker since I left Circuit and don't have direct access to the inventory system daily, but witha little effort and contacts you can find them.

Greg,

Thanks for the info! I been kinda hearing the same, but I didnt know about the part with Delphi. Is this a for sure? If so when are these units supposed to be out? I need to know wheather to wait for the DElphi or buy an Alpine now for a high price. I dont want to wait and then get screwed either lol.

Thanks!

Jaime

Alpine is no longer producing the hardware for XM, XM is actually supposed to be coming out with there own that will adapt into the Alpine piece. Basically The new alpine decks will no longer say Xm ready on them, but will still support the software to run XM.

Don't really know when they are supposed to be out, I don't deal with car stereo any more. Best bet would be to see if you can find a shop closing out the Alpine piece at a discounted price.
