CX-9 Mysterious Noise...Already replaced parts...Help!

I had noise coming from my muffler. Was told it was a little crack and fixed that. Drove that day and heard lots of noise reversing and while ac turned on . Went back and mechanic said I had to change both belts(mine you serpentine belt was changed not too long ago). Sound was still there, took it back and then he replaced the tentioner. After replacing that; the sound was better, but gradually came back about 2 days driving I'll turn the AC and also putting it in reverse that sound would come. Now he's saying he only sees the tentioner.. right now I don't want him to go anything else; I'm ready to do it myself. Any help will be much grateful.

sounds like a tricky one mate. maybe check the ac compressor? i had a similar issue and it turned out to be that. not sure if itll help but worth a look maybe?

Yep. Small shops and of course the dealerships are the biggest frauds. I was told my 2011 RAM 1500, which is garage-kept and only has 73k on it, would not pass inspection and needed a sway bar for $1500! $1500 for a simple SWAY bar!!!! You can buy these online for around $110. Now if that isn't price gouging, I don't know what is.

Buy a mechanic's stethoscope. Very carefully touch it to stationary parts while the engine is running to listen for noise at the connected moving part. Also, with the engine off, touch parts hunting for one that is unusually warm.

When we had our engine replaced, the mechanic (did an absolute crap job overall) didn't tighten one of the bolts that holds the A/C compressor in place. So it was just rattling inside the hole. It couln't fall out due to where it was located near the body in the engine bay. It made a metal to metal clanking sound, almost sounded like dramatized lifter tick...if that makes any sense. When I went to replace my belts, I found it. Sound is now gone, sounds normal again. Not saying this is your issue, but you may check that it got tightened correctly if the compressor ever needed to be taken off.
