Daughter's 2008 CX-9 water pump went out. Replaced water pump, timing chain parts, oil pump. Put back together. Not overheating - runs well. Checked oil pressure via mechanical gauge. Steady at 80 psi until the oil reached operating temp (180-190ish), then pressure dropped to 15-20 psi - below standards. Took apart again and found slight damage to main bearings and connecting rod bearings (2 checked). Crankshaft still smooth but I still lightly polished. Replaced main bearings. Replacing connecting rod bearings when one of the last four bolt heads stripped. Darn. Finished the rest. I did not find them before, so I was forced to reuse the originals - not what I wanted to do.
I need one bolt to finish this motor, and it is unavailable (not a serviceable part), not listed in any manual. I tried Mazda # LF0111214A. It does not work. The thread pitch is not the same. I went to ford and looked at a few others part numbers for the 3.7 Duratec but it was the same as the Mazda (hex head instead.) It appears that Ford and Mazda use different bolts despite being the same engine core - At least in the 2008 model range.
I measured the bolt size, but my bolt checker does not include M9 as an option - M8 too small, and M10 is slightly loose. Metric thread pitch gauge tells me that it's .075.
So... M9-0.75 x 40mm long is my guess. I've seen information suggesting that it's a M9-1.0 but my gauge says 0.75 is correct.
At this point I am looking for anyone that has information on obtaining the needed bolt size. It could be from any other source as long as it meets the quoted size/material - unless I am wrong
I plan on replacing them all if I can find new replacements. If not, I need to find a 2008 (maybe other years) part-out motor/vehicle and buy a few connecting rod bolts. I was also going to visit a bolt only business (they can machine as well) - but as a last resort. CX9s seem rare in the junkyards.
I did see this ford part: Engine Connecting Rod Bolt - M9 x .75 47mm 6.2L. SKU: AL3Z6214A. It's 7mm too long but I can make it 40mm.
Any other solutions? Thank you in advance.
