It's been awhile since I've visited these forums. I have the 07 Grand Touring w/Tech. It now has 68,871 miles. Two major repairs in two months.

In May, replaced VVT actuator for timing chain and yesterday, had the EGR valve replaced. Up until May, the vehicle has been flawless. Now, I'm not so sure anymore. I'm beginning to understand why Consumer Reports gave ho-hum marks for this vehicle.

Wondering if anyone else with the early model and with as many miles or more, having issues?

EGR valve... what triggered that repair? Codes? I beleive my MS3 also needs the VVT actuator has all the symptoms but I can never get the dealer to hear it and i'm out of warranty.

CEL code P0401. Service dept told me the EGR routes exhaust gases back into the engine or something like that. He said the valve sometimes goes bad due to accumulation of carbon, etc.

SeCX-9, thanks for the link! There's only one TSB related to VVT (but listed twice), Bulletin No: 01-002/08. I didn't have those symptoms, but since the actuator failed, it was replaced.

Been a while since I've been here, too.

Mine only has 47k on it, but it's been to the dealer more in three years than my '97 Miata has in twelve. Soon as spring gets here, it may get traded for something more reliable, like, say, a used Hummer.

the EGR valve is one of those things that will gum up over time. in my protege i had to clean it every 6-9 months after hitting 60k, and then it would run fine for a while.

I got the car at the dealer right now getting my second VVT actuator for timing chain installed first one was at 3000 miles and now at 40000 miles. Good thing it is under the power-train warranty because he sad it would cost me about $1100. I did ask him is that a problem with many 2.3 turbos but of course he sad no, it one of those things.(screwy)
