MikeM: Saw a short period today on Snoqualmie they were requiring chains even on AWD. Looks to be a good year for all snow enthusiasts in the NorthWest US.

People who drive in winter weather a lot generally avoid tire setups with low aspect ratio's like the GT's 225/45/19's. That said, you may be able to fit some descent cable chains without causing wheel damage if you find a set that is almost too small for your setup. It is difficult to take the slop out of chains that fit too big.
Mike--The GT actually has 225/55/19 tires so would that make it a little easier to put on chains without damaging the wheels??
Reporting back... I have a GT with the 19" wheels and bought SCC ZT729 cable chains. Mounted them on the front wheels while in garage and they do not appear to damage the wheels since the tires bulge outwards away from the wheel surface, however they do look close. I have not had the need to actually use them yet since the brand new all season oem tires have faired pretty well against the snow so far
