CX-5 Class III Hitch available

just wanted to bump this up to the top, looks like the Curt hitch is a great option considering price ease of installation (their install sheet is great)..

But I am wondering if any you folks have installed a 2" (Class III) hitch? This would make it much easier when it comes to finding hitch mount bike racks as there is a greater selection of 2" racks vs. 1.25".

BTW This is the Class III thats available from Draw Tite , its about $200

Thanks

I just ordered this hitch from Croft Trailer Supply. I needed a 2" receiver for all the the attachments that I currently use with my Tundra, so didn't want an 1-1/4" hitch. I will post an update when it arrives, and if I can figure out how to post pictures, show some shots of the install.

Do tell us how the install goes! And take plenty of pics as well. I am wondering if the kit comes with the trailer ball....

Thanks JTNY, I will give it a try. Hitch is due tomorrow according to FEDEX tracking. Now I need to shop for a wiring kit.

I got my wiring harness from etrailer.com

Hitch install was a breeze. It helps to have a second person to help lift the hitch though.

I haven't installed the harness yet. Thinking about letting a body shop do it. Have to remove several plastic panels in the rear cargo area.

The Class III Drawtite receiver is not available until early July (according to one dealer in NJ) - does anyone know any other purveyors for this receiver?

the only thing i screwed up was the removal of the bumper hangars... leave them hanging on the car, not the exhaust - otherwise, you won't be able to get them back on when the hitch is in place. other than that, the curt hitch went on very easily - just fishwire 4 bolts & plates, then bolt up the hitch.
hope this helps.

I just installed my Curt hitch. Agreed, it's relatively simple, but be sure to leave those hanger isolator things hanging on the car, cuz it's impossible to slide them back onto the car's "hooks" when the hitch is on.
That being said, I was able to put 3 hangers back on, but couldn't get the last one (driver side, rear) on. See image. I can't push the exhaust far enough over to the left to get the exhaust "hook" back into the rubber hanger. Quite frustrating, especially in this heat & humidity. Not to mention the mosquitoes. :-/
Anyone have any advice?

Can you possibly remove the rubber hanger, slip them over the exhaust and fasten them back to the body of the car?

What you can't see in the pic is the hook attached to the car, which is what's holding the rubber hanger. It opens out to the right, but the hitch is only about a 1/4" away, so there's no way to slip the 1"+ wide rubber hanger onto it with the hitch in place. Kinda the same problem I have now, just maybe a lil more difficult.
I'm gonna try to figure out a way to squeeze the rubber hanger up against the hitch as much as I can to try to slip the exhaust hook into it. Maybe some vice grips... What a pain.

After some hurculean effort, I was able to use a screwdriver to pry the rubber hanger down onto the hook. Nearly killed myself in the process. But it's done!

I installed Draw-tite class III hitch # 75748 this morning. I got it from Croft Trailer Supply online. It took me about 90 minutes working alone. It was a little more complicated than the Curt as it mounts differently and you have to get your hands into tight places. No bumper cutting required. Since I had my utility trailer loaded with about a thousand lbs of household goods, I hooked it up and went for a ride around the neighborhood. I didn't take it out on the highway since I haven't wired the lights yet, so I only drove about 30 mph, but it towed fine. I took many pictures, but I don't have a clue how to post them.

I also received a Portable Pet Partition from Autoanything, but it doesn't fit snug with the roof because of the 30 degree roof angle at that location. I was going to send it back, but then began to think that I can modify it and make it work. That will have to wait as I need to get my trailer unpacked at the new house.

Nice! I PM'ed you if you want me to host pictures. The receiver box is 2" x 2" right?
Is the box the only thing seen from the back?
Meaning, do you lose any ground clearance in the back?
Did you have to get the hitch through a dealer of Croft Trailer? I ask b/c they don't seem to have a dedicated site to buy things from.

Yes, 2"x2" receiver. All you see is box and safety loops. Ground clearance with trailer attached with about 100 lbs tongue weight is 10". dealt directly with Croft website. Very fast delivery. http://www.crofttrailer.com/ $30 mail in rebate available from Draw-Tite. All pics sent to your email.

Thanks for hosting pics.

awesome! can't wait to see the pics.

Do you think install would be easier with 2 ppl? and was it particularly difficult to remount the exhaust hangers?

I sent the pics around 8:00 am pacific. Two people would be easier. Hangers were very easy with soap solution. When I rehung, I sprayed the insides and they slipped right on. If you did not get the pics, I will resend later.
