CX-5 Auto Dimming Mirror Install: A-Pillar

I am trying to install the auto dimming mirror in my 2014 CX-5. I'm getting hung up on removing the A-Pillar from the drivers side. I'm installing using the instructions (http://mazda.handa.com/cx5/cx5mirror.pdf) with little luck. I can't seem to twist the tab on the a-pillar connector (step 5), not enough room. Any suggestions? I would really appreciate any help I can get.

I have installed one, though not the Mazda one, but most likely is the same. I is a Gentex with compass and Homelink buttons.
I haven't opened up the A pillar at all. I have removed the dome light/sunglasses holder plastic cover and poked through with a hard wire, the mirror wire.
Before that I have puled away the door rubber seal, from the top to all the way to the fuse box. This way I have managed to poke through the mirror's wires and I have just placed them behind the A pillar all the way down to the same hight as the fuse box.
I have removed the plastic cover which is over the fuse box(cover+ plastic surrounding). There is a nut behind the fuse box. I have also had to remove the plastic sill cover too.
I have used two fuses from the fuse box, though I don't remember which one. If I remember right, it was the top right one and the other the left top, though it's much lower then on the right side.
One is the constant 12V and the other is the switched one.
You can use a multimeter, to check on top of the fuses, they have there pins sticking out on there top. Don't even have to remove them.
Good luck with the install. I did it after a couple of days after I have purchased the car. First upgrade. Since then, I have replaced the dash speakers too. Next are the door speakers, amp, compact powered subwoofer, Kenwood nav double din and .....

I installed the auto dimming mirror and also had a terrible time with the A-pillar. I tried every pair of needle nose pliers and leatherman type tools I had and must have worked on it for a couple of hours. Just couldn't get the plastic piece rotated to where it would slide through the slot that it needed to go through. Very frustrating - like you said, just not enough room.

I wish I could tell you that I figured out some neat trick to make it easier but I didn't. I did finally get it by doing it like the instructions said to, but it was a bugger.

I haven't even touched the A pillar. I have routed the wires through the ceiling and came out at the top of the door in the middle and then I have just routed it under the plastic trim. Then I have just pushed back the door seal.

If this helps in any way, I inadvertently removed the A-pillar when I began pushing the vehicle solo (from the top part of the pillar) to a gas station cuz I ran out of gas (argh)

Now I can't snap it back into place. . . (toetap)

I did the mirror. Don't recall having much difficulty with rotating the clip to remove, I probably used electrical needle nose pliers. I did reuse the clip putting it back on though - rather than cutting the original and using the new one in the kit. That was a real bugger to get back on!

For those who say they didn't remove the A pillar, the mazda mirror is plug'n'play but connects into a plug behind the A pillar trim, so you HAVE to remove it.
