CulRidr's MP3 N/A build (~150whp goal)

^Yup true, but if you get all the internals taken care of, then if all that is left is a bolt-on, it's not a big issue to swap over in comparison :)

exactly - i'm just pointing out where you will need to look if it doesn't meet expectations - intake manifold is going to be the number 1 problem area i think (as well as rod ratio if you want to push insane RPM in the future - but you've already stated that pushes the budget way out)

just to reiterate, 150hp isn't a huge goal - it can (and has) been done with nothing but bolt-ons...i'd be revising your goal upwards a little bit if i were you (or not, and be pleasantly surprised when it cracks a big number)

I say keep the 150 mark realistic

if it's easy to hit, SWEET!!

THEN, from there, just keep plugging away and see how high you can get it

yeah, that sounds smart...

CulRidr *thinks* if he gets 150 he'll stop.... famous last words i reckon ;) ;)

The only other thing I could see myself doing is IM and full standalone. But honestly, I think an O2 clamp with a good piggyback tune will be more then enough :)

No idea...but I doubt it. I'll see when the time comes. An IM swap is pretty simple compared to the other stuff being done to the car.

josh did the 626 intake mani on his car, and both he and John noticed a nice little gain

no dyno to prove what that gain is, but, it is there

and, yeah, it is an easy swap over

Dammit; LSD is tempting me, which means open tranny, which means 5th gear swap (thank god I can find the latter for cheaper then NSN)...MONEY PIT!

i kinda assumed you already had the LSD thing squared away ;)

its not necessary, but well worth it - will compliment the engine build nicely.

No I had decided I wouldn't, but got a great deal on a used speedcircuit stage2 head and the same guy wants a Quaife so I'm getting his Rev3 welded and machined to have the speedo gear fit (not having ABS had to come and bite me in the ass at some point (jerkit))

Parts are still being collected. I got all my brake stuff last night (MSP pads/rotors, rear stock rotors, replacement rear caliper), and already had the MSP calipers.
Also picked up my Exedy MSP-spec clutch last night.
I get the header in the week following easter.
And then April 17th is the BIG day as I go to the states to pick up my rebuild kit, flywheel, pistons, possibly 5th gear, and a few other goodies. Then I cross back to meet up with semi-local guys to get my lightweight race wheels, the head, and most likely the LSD.

As for timeframe?
Header gets put on/test fitted and the midpipe modified on April 20th.
Car goes in to the dealership during the first week of May, and everything should be done by the end of the week.
Then the engine gets broken in in time for the first autoX events of the year during the weekend of May 23rd, for which I'll have to get some GOOD advice on how to do it properly.

dealership doing your rebuild? braver man than I am dude ;)

edit: decided what you're doing with engine management yet? piggybacking it?

Ya I'll stick to the MPI for now. Need to find an O2 clamp soon though as I'd like to be able to tune in open loop for the best AFRs and numbers up top (AFRs are great in closed loop...)

And yes the dealership will take it out and apart, and build it up and put it in. The reason I chose them? Price, service and experience; no you aren't misreading that, our dealership really is the s***. They support aftermarket, have supported our local club since they opened last fall, have rates about 30% lower then most other dealerships, employ a few Mazda master technicians with well over 15 years of experience, and other techs from Porsche, Audi and elsewhere. These guys know what they are doing, and I am sure that nothing within their control will go wrong. I've talked at length with them about what I want to do, and they have already chosen who will be working on my engine (tranny is yet to see).

Well I got the header today, got this thing looks good!
The welds are fantastic, and the collectors are SO smooth!
