Cruise control in a mazdaspeed?

:
'03.5 MSP(Yellow!)
Alright, I'm going to purchase a cruise control from a '98lx and attempt to make it work on the MSP. Has anyone tried to make this work yet, and what have their results been? Would it be worth it to get the cruise control from an '01-newer instead of a '98?

idk what modules they use on the 98, but it is possible to put it on the 3rd gen...wait....idk about your ecu. i put it on mine, but i have a reg sedan sooo idk if it will work with your ecu. i think some type of aftermarket CC will be best for you.

why do you say that? I can't see why an aftermarket CC would work better than the stocker. is it actually controlled by the ECU?

Well I went about a different way, I took a p5 and did the mazdaspeed swap on it. So I have a factory sunroof and cruise control.

I have a sedan but will be putting a msp ecu in so is that bye bye to my cruise control?

ok I am a service writer at Mazda and just had this convorsation with 2 of the Master Techs here. They talked me out of it. In a nut shell said bad idea.

i would like to know why. i work in mazda parts and know the car inside and out and there is no reason why cruise control would not work on an msp.

people have done the install, there is a parts list somewhere on the forum for those willing to dig it up. and the ECU is not so much respective of controlling the cruise control. More so it is vacuum driven by a vac line signal plumbed to your intake manifold.

an after market solution is 'better' because it is less complex to install, probably alot less money and just as effective at doing what the stock system is designed to do.

They probably told him it was a bad idea for the amount of work involved with wiring it up with another mazda model.

the 2nd gen's cruise control MIGHT work but you'll need to do a bunch of reengineering to wire it up

to make the 3rd gen's stock cruise control work on the MSP, you really need to take off the dash and run wires and s***.... it's NOT worth it.. search for a post I made about it... yes you can make it work as if it came with it from the factory, but there's too many parts involved and it's NOT worth the time and money

it has involved the wiring harness...so thats why if figured it might not work on an msp...maybe not controlled by the ecu but thought maybe another signal would disrupt something... maybe not. but yea i said aftermarket cause itd be cheaper, and a lot easier to install.

may be man but they told mw no. could have been from lack of experience with this type of addition, not to mention the probelms that our cars have with boost and 5th gear. That could have worried them also.

jesus, every time i think i am done with this thread some other crap is chucked on there. What the hell is wrong with the boost and 5th gear?

sorry dude, there are problem with over boosting the MSP in 5th gear. if the c/c was controling the throttle then it could possibly unknowingly force the car to run more boost than it should at a loww rpm trying to accelerate since it can't down shift.

Well, a MSP has problems in every gear and 5th is a gear so you see where I am going with this...

wonder if this could be compensated with a second setting on an electronic boost controller. have a very low boost setting for CC on the highway perhaps.

From what I understand, the only reason the MSP didn't come with CC is because the module gets in the way of the strut tower brace.

i boost in fifth gear all day long....hmmm :(

the real reason its not in the car is simple - cost. plenty of turbo cars have cruise. look at subaru's entire lineup as an example.

well fact of the matter is until i get this damn turbo in the point is moot. leaving this thread alone again.

My cruise will seldom hit .5 psi when i am in cruise. Besides, any one knows that when you come to a steep grade (trust me you know what steep is), you are suppose to down shift for better power and ease on the engine load with higher rpms.
