Creating a front Grill

I am just gauging peoples interest in this project....

(Cheap in the wallet + Optomistic at heart + Too much time on my hands) / by My Inexperience = A Gong Show

But besides the fact that it should be a gong show with only a 30-35% realistic chance of actually working, I am willing to post pics and updates if their is any intrest...

Uh, not too sure what you're talkin' 'bout, Willis.

What are you planning on making? Got a sketch or something?

I have tried in the past and failed, but only b/c I was using the wrong type of metal. At the time i had some expanded steel and it looked pretty cool but was way to heavy and hard to work with. I got on today to ask if anyone knew where I could find just plain grill mesh, similar to what comes with most body kits and autoexe grilles? I have been unable to find it. otherwise I would have already started my grill. If you can find something that works well please let me know. Good Luck!

I've been thinking about making my own also. Some styrofoam and clay to make a mock up grille, then make a mold, and use fiberglass in the mold.

Well their seems to be enough interest to at least explain myself a little better.

My idea was alot Mike R 's idea. Infact I have already started on it, very basic so far though. I am on my second complete idea and it involves the pink styrofoam sheets you pick up form the hardware stores. I have glued a series of them togther and have sanded them down to make a smooth one side.
After that i began to cut out a shape similar to the grill and that is as far as i have gotten, mind you, I have just started it this past weekend and i am not sure how long/how many times i will have to try to get it right.

But i will post my sketch/sketchs of what i want to do, along with some pics of the start of the project in the next few days. To give you a idea of what i want to do: (It would be similar to the mintblue/mazda3 topgrill, minus the Fly'n M)

Plus if this all works i have ideas of workin on other projects like one for the bottom grill, maybe some form of matchin pair... but anyway that is just midwork day dream'n.... (sleep)

I wasn't planning on using planing on using fiberglass but if yours works out well I might try it. Can't wait to see some pictures. Once again does anyone know where I can get some grill mesh.

I want to make some grills out of perforated aluminum, kind of like the Ballistic Unlimited Protege. I can get the material but can't find anybody who can figure out the install for me. Anybody got any insight?

I went to Home Depot tonight and found to different types of mesh and hope to work on a grill over the thanksgiving holiday. I'll be sure to keep you updated with pictures. Good Luck to anyone else trying to do the same.

Definately make something different then the mintblue grill. If you make one that looks like a Saab grill (two small holes to the sides) or maybe a pontiac grill that may look good.

Kinda like this GTO grill or similar to the saab without being a total ripoff. I saw someone doing a Mitsubishi type grill but I didn't like it too much.
