Creaky Rear Seat

Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone has had this problem? Recently I've noticed a creaking sound from the rear passenger seat (right hand side) when someone is sitting in the seat. I've been able to replicate it by pushing (like doing CPR) on the seat bottom, but I can't pinpoint exactly where it is creaking (other than somewhere underneath.) There appear to be several metal rods that go cross-wise across the seat bottom (I'm assuming these are part of the seat spring cushion) and its possible that one of those is creaking or rubbing against something.

Anyway, if anyone has had any luck pinpointing this same problem or been able to convince a dealer to look at it, let me know!

Well I finally got around to investigating the creaky rear seat. It was the rear passenger side where my son usually sits (on the right cushion) and every time he shifted his weight or got in and out of the car, I could hear this squeak that sounded like metal on metal contact. I could duplicate it by doing "CPR" on the seat in the front left corner.

I took the seat apart and found that on the front left side, there is a metal rod that is a few millimeters from the seat frame, but its not attached, welded, or has any protective bumper around it.

I solved the issue by first putting some electrical tape along the frame and around the rod where it was likely to make contact. Then I wedged a piece of foam in between the rod and the frame. Reassembled the seat and noise gone.

There was one other "fix" that I did, on the bottom of the seat, there is a hole and a pin in the floor, both of these are metal. I added a bumper to the pin by pushing a scrap piece of fish tank tubing over the pin before putting the seat mount back over it. I don't know if this helped or not, but my intent was to reduce as much metal on metal areas that could cause noise.

I don't think this is a wide-spread issue as I haven't seen anyone else complain about it before. I think in my case, it was from my son's booster seat which I think put too much pressure on the outer edges of the seat cushion. It's possible something got bent. But just in case, I wanted to show where the issue was on my cx5 in the hopes that it would enlighten and inform other owners. Cheers!

Hey Bcdad, I think I have this exact problem. I'd like to check it out.
Can you tell me how exactly did you remove the seat? Is it easy enough for someone who's not a wrench?

I heard this once on my 2013 Touring when I was hooking it through some twisty mountain roads with a rather overweight passenger in the right rear seat. Neve happened again, but it's nice to know it wasn't my imagination and that there is a simple fix for it.

My drive side rear seat creaks when a passenger gets in and out of it. Hate taking any car to the dealership so I hope I can fix this myself too.
