Crazy Head-unit!

My head-unit all of a sudden while I was driving listening to music set at a very low volume, flipped down (but not back so that the black part was showing) and turned the power off on itself. When I detach the faceplate it flips back like is when car is on. When I reattach the unit it just flips back down in the insert CD position. (I have a CD in the unit atm). Tryed reset button and no dice. Anyone?

Mine is doing the same thing!! I hit the reset button I swear at least 25 times and nothing happens...It just flips up into the normal position and about 15-20 seconds later flips back down. My transmission is also messed up because somebody at Mazda forgot to put the correct amount of gear oil in it from the factory....It was dry when I checked it and no leaks. Mazda told me that they could fix my tranny but couldn't touch the radio because it is "aftermarket" and did not come stock in the car. So now I have to prove to them that the unit is stock and get them to replace it.

ME TOO!! I have gone two weeks with no music waiting on my appointment at the dealership....then they tell me they can't touch it unless I prove it is stock.

EXACTLY what happens with mine.

I guess I got lucky, cause mines doing the same thing and I got the CD magically to come out. There are a lot of doubts that Mazda will replace after talking to a lot of people on here, but after a month with out any stereo I'm going crazy and want a new MSMiata radio or anything equivelent to ours. Pisses me off when I think about it.

Damn man, that's complete crap. My unit just flipped out on me yesterday and they better replace it soon, got a road trip coming up next week. My dealer sees alot of mazdaspeeds so hopefully they won't pull that kind of s*** one me.

Most of the time this is caused by the pins no longer lining up correctly. If you look at the left an right side of where the faceplate connects you can see two little metal pieces that help hold the faceplate in place. Just bend those inward (toward the center of the radio) so they hold the faceplate tighter. Most of the time this will solve your problem.

Sometimes the ribbon breaks too after extended use. Yahoosa found a how-to on another site for fixing this. Do a search on his posts to find the link.

My was messed up that way too, it took 2-3 weeks for the replacement to come in but all is good now, finally.

Update- My unit was replaced too, no questions asked...props to the dealership.

i had the same thing happen to me with my cd player flipping outwards with a cd in it i turned the car off a few times waiting at a red light nothing happened got to my girlfriends house detached the faceplate the contraption closed reattached the faceplate hit the reset button and havent had a problem with it since but you better believe if something happens again im gonna take full advantage of having a warranty,

that is ridiculous that a mazda dealership is makin you prove to them that the headunit is stock seein as they are a dealership they should be able to access that information so easily what a bunch of fucktards

!

Its broken, i had the same thing and i had to take it back 3 times before they replaced the headunit. I havent had problems since.

had the exact same problem. Disconnected the battery for 20 seconds, reconnect and its fine.
