Crappy Paint!

I know a lot of people dislike the cheap paint procedure mazda used on some of the lighter color vehicles.. but has anyone tried to do anything about it? i tried a search but couldnt find anything.. Does anyone else hate seeing paint chip after paint chip apear on the front and sides of doors (basically all over)? Im wondering if enough people complain all together if they will do something about it? I just got my car keyed.. and it really made me look all over the car and i found soo many chips in the paint, and I treat my car the best i can... Im thinking about paying for a clearcoat treatment, but im wondering if I am justified paying for it on a brand new car that shouldnt be having this bad of a problem... if im way off in my opinions, someone fill me in...

thanks.

Ive noticed alot people have been complaining about the paint, but I havent had any problems. I have a few chips on the front bumper, but Ive been traveling alot since ive bought it and thats bound to happen. Im sure if you go tell the dealer they can do something about it. Isnt there some kind of warranty on the paint? Or is it the clear coat?

i dont know but the paint isnt worth the gun it comes out of. i have taken the best care of my pro 5 i can and no matter what it seems another chip appears. i dont know what to do. but it really does aggrivate me.

do you think if we get a massive nationwide complaing going, they would do something about it? I'm prob gunna call up or go to the dealer and complain soon.

Paint

On Saturday, we took delivery of our silver '03 P5. I looked the car over from head to tail with a drop light outside in the sun and the paint is flawless. It's one of the best factory finishes I've seen and comperable to our '97 Civic. There is not a mark on this car, so I will be able to tell when something shows up. By the way, I was told by the Mazda service manager at the local dealer, that all of the Proteges are clearcoated from the factory. I checked ours in an out of the way spot, and it is clear coated.
I'm wondering if the chipping folks are seeing is somewhat due to the ground effects that are on the P5? I once had an '83 Civic hatchback that was just awful on the highway. At 1,800 pounds with skinny factory tires, semis would literally blow the little car out of the lane when when they went by. When the car was 5 years old, I added front and side ground effects and 60 series TAs to the car. It stuck like glue to the road and the semis would no longer move it around, but the front fenders and hood starting getting paint chips all over them. My '92 Saturn coupe hood looks like it had small pox. I know that ground effects will reduce the thickness of the boundry layer of air passing over the car and this may allow more objects to get to the paint surface. Jim

I can assure you my 2002 Yellow is NOT clearcoated! I tried to make a small mark disappear with some light compound and the rag was all yellow in a matter of seconds, which should not happen with clearcoat...

I agree

a small scratch on a clearcoated car should produce a white mark and polish out. If you are getting color with polishing compound, the paint isn't clearcoated. I've been lied to, or at least mislead. Jim

You need to get your car checked out. It should have a clearcoat. I also have a yellow and have one. Paint still chips rather easily though.

dealer

My mom took her 626 up to the same dealer where i bought my p5.. so i called her and asked her to talk to the service lady abt what they can do abt the cheap paint. The service lady said that she hadn't heard any complaints about any cheap paint, but i can bring my car up there and they would "look at it" for me... I'll prob see about doing that tomarro after school and see if all they tell me is "you have a few chips in the paint." I dislike the service lady at that dealer... she seems very sneaky as if she knows of a big scam they run on people in the back. Maybe its just my imagination though... I love my P5 and I feel its one of the best built cars ive driven.. i just hate the paint job..

F*** MAZDA!!!!

Well, I just got back from talking to the mazda rep. he said that the chips on my car were from rocks,he said sorry he couldn't do anything for me. These chips were on my car after only like 20 miles, I didn't notice them when I picked up the car, he said he owned a car that would need repainting after every 2 years because of rocks, but my car was only DAYS OLD!!!! I don't care what anyone says you shouldn't have this problem with a car that only has a few miles on it !!!!! I know this is a cheap car but this just isn't right. I have a 92 B-2000 truck that will look better than this. I will tell anyone and everone NOT to buy this car, this is bulls***. If your not having this problem then you probably don't care, but from the number of posts that I've seen about this, I don't think that I'm alone here.....mad and VERY disappointed in MAZDA>>>>

petition anyone?

why dont we all complain to mazda? like in an organized petition of some sort. or have everyone who has this problem describe their sitation in this thread and when it gets to a good size (which shoulsnt take long) send it to mazda.... Its not that i hate mazda because of the paint, they did a great job designing the car.. its just cheap paint..

petitions dont really work that well.... you have to get ALOT... and I mean ALOT... thousands of people ATLEAST... or else they wont listen to you.. and even then mazda will find some way out of it... saying its the owners fault, or thats how the car came and thats what they paid for, so we cant do anything about it..

remember the z919/z828 petition.. nothin happened there because mazda pointed out that they can do whatever the **** they want to their cars whenever the **** they want... so just because they screwed about 700 ppl out of 400 US its not their problem...

mazda sux... their cars are pretty god damn cool... but the ppl that work for the company are not....

My car is about 9 months old. Got 3 chips by the foglights, one nasty one on the hood, couple on the side skirt (both) and they are all from 60km city driving, no highway...... I am not that pissed coz I know I can't do anything about it except put touch up paint, I rather take my anger time to touch up paint my car.. All I know is that I ain't buying Mazda no more and I ain't keeping my piece of chipped s*** in the future.
anyway, since the P5 was built in Japan, I am guessing the paint problem lies in Japan rather than North America. So if you need to make a complaint, guess you gotta go overseas......I am probably wrong thought.

o yeah.......have anyone of you notice how dirty the back bumper gets when it rains ? and those little black and orange dot just sticks on. Bad design. They should of made the bumper a little bit slanted so the water will just run off instead staying there and drying out.

lol... ok... dont be mad... but now your being WAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY too anal... WAY...... to anal... c'mon man...

they should have designed the bumper slanted so that the water runs off??

should the whole car be at an angle?? because on my mp3.. when it rains... the windows, the hood, the roof, the sides... the mirrors.... they all get wet and get water spots when the water dries out... and i have to go outside and give her a good cleanin and finish...

im all for you guys getting better paint jobs... but dont get greedy and stoopid now man...

once again.. not trying to be a dick.. i just think that was outta line... i dont foresee a petition to make mazda redesign a bumper and recall all p5s to install it...

Well. i don't see what all the whining is about.

i personaly think the paint is fine, i have absolutely no probs with it, still looks good as day one :D

well, i am not whining. I am not saying I have a problem with it. This is a forum and is for people to discuss opinions, idea, and thoughts. Right ? The reason I am saying about the bumper is because thats where all the dust and road tar goes, that how the orange and black dot appear. I don't mind water spots on top of the car, hood, sides, or whatever coz road tar and dust don't stay there as much as the rear bumper. And I am not greedy and stupid, if I was, I would go to the dealer and complaint about the road tar and the design of the car. Right ? I am just giving my thoughs on this car. :)
