CPE Hybrid Hitachi-Warner K04 Turbocharger Upgrade: MAZDASPEED 6, MAZDASPEED 3

Coming Soon!

CPE is currently developing a hybrid turbocharger upgrade for the SPEED6/SPEED3 capable of safely eclipsing the 300whp mark. The stock turbocharger works well in stock trim, but becomes inadequate once power levels being to increase. It simply cannot flow the amount of air required for better than 300hp, and trying to do so will result in a lot of hot air and/or a wrecked turbocharger.

Though the parameters may change as the project progresses, we would like to retain the stock turbine housing and keep changes to the compressor side. This will allow the turbocharger to be used on stock style exhaust flanges, so no specific manifold or downpipe will be required.

So what's up with this effort? Any news?

old news... from what i hear the ditched this project for something different.
they still plan on a turbo uprade, just not this one..... i think

Our turbo is so undersized anyway. I would just get the gt301 instead. Has anyone done the gt30xxxx swap? any results?

Im going to guess that nobody has. A lot of people are semi-warranty concerned.
There are a few speed6 guys that have swapped, and some of them have blown their engines.
Most people with MS3s are waiting for a better EMS to come out to switch.

u really think the guys running 12's on stock turbos dont have more than 300whp?
get serious(drinks)

Thats what I was thinking when I saw that. Those guys are closer to 350whp at least.. esp with the 111mph trap. On stock turbo without a tune... But if I remember correctly this turbo upgrade in stock was planned well before the fuel upgrade was out and they didn't really know what the engine is capable of with better fuel delivery.

the guy with ride of the month for October had a gt30 on his and i think it made 450 wheel! it was a black one

Is the Hiyachi a ball bearing turbo or not.I think the GT30 is also a the best upgrade fit for the MS3.However it needs to be controlled in conjunction with a better EMS pnp system with full boost controll and better fuel management. We need a complete turbo kit consisting of an upgraded fuel pump, turbo, down pipe and EMS and with all necessarry pumbing of course.

i'm not sure a big turbo is really needed on these cars anymore. it was originally thought that the turbo was the bottle neck for the whole car. as it would appear the fuel system is the weak link. take laloosh for example.....
4 mods on his car, stock turbo doing 12's ON SNOW TIRES !! i am very confident that mid-11's can be easily attained on the stock turbo. i think going big turbo without building a forged bottom end, is just a waste. i think the k04 can put down as much power as the stock motor can handle.

It does not need a much bigger Turbo but it definately needs a tad bigger ball bearing Garret GT28 Family > GT2871R - 743347- 2 that spools much quicker(good for 475hp)

.I think the engine internals should handel 400hp@crank.I think with turbo manifold upgrade,DP,TP,CAI,Fuel Pump. and a good EMS,450hp can be achieved safely without an error light on your dash:-)Just like stock. The good thing is,that a smaller turbo ,can no doubt give much faster spool up times and lower rpm performance. With power like that we should be pretty much head to head with a 2009 M3,Audi R8,RS4 who all have 420`ish at crank without turbos thus lacking the immense the torque we will have:-)

Id really like to have a 2871r. That turbo would probably fit this car really well. Or if anything bigger a 3071r. Stock turbo will go 11s I have no doubt. The only question is who will be the first. You guys are modding your cars faster than I can type. LOL

I don't know man, the difference between 12.9 and 11.5 in the quarter is HUGE. I don't see mid 11's on the stock turbo unless you're using slicks and meth/nitrous.

What I think is crazy about this car is we could see 400 wheel without changing the turbo out!

i/tbe/19psi/exhasut mani/tune/meth/o2 dump/intake mani/cams

I def think its possible now who will be the first and be in the 11's?

well, i think laloosh's car is good for 12.4's on slicks just as it is.
with an IC upgrade, a manifold and maybe 19psi... i bet it can do 11's.
stock turbo will do 11's .....as soon as next season, watch and see.
i bet driver311 or laloosh will be first to the 11's. i am shooting for low 12's next year. if i get that i will be happy. if its faster i will be VERY happy ! i will have a very similat set-up to driver311, so it may be do-able.

I think his car will run 12.2@112 the way it sits. No doubt about it, he can rip through the gears.

ooohhhh man i cant get that fuel pump in the car soon enough !!
this winter is going to be good to me.
i hope to add 50whp and 70TQ over this winter.
i did 248/270 on a pooly executed dyno last month with a CAI and the manifold. with the race pipe, fuel pump and + 3-4psi i think 295/340 is reasonable. i also might chop the resonators out of the stock CBE and roll with that for a while . as for the turbo upgrade. i think unless you really want to go balls out, its not needed.

I think as soon as a really good plug and play or removable(cobb) ems comes out, a LOT of people are going to be shooting for big numbers, I know I will.
I think high 11's could be possible, with slicks.
If laloosh were to get the manifold installed, and get an intercooler, and a tune, I think he could definitely do it.
You have to remember that he isnt even tuned right now, he's just using standback as a boost controller pretty much. More power could be had from tuning.

I dont know how possible 400 whp could be though. I need an excuse to get a bigger turbo!

ill be trying for 11's as soon as the track re-opens in 2008...i just have to baby the car out of the hole or ill break something.

lol at people claiming this turbo is good for 300whp. Personally based on trap speed alone my car is pushing more then 300.

the stock ic has a 3psi pressure loss. For me to run 18psi the turbo is spinning at 21 psi and its still giving me power. Correct? Add a simple ic that has a pressure loss of 1 psi and bump the boost up to 20psi, add fuel if needed. and this car will hit 115 traps, if not the manifold should get it there. 115 traps and a nice low 1.7 = 11s
