Well guys I really need some help. I need to order something soon. I need a tune really bad. But I just cat decide what to get. I like the CP-e because you can custom tune the car, but I dont know s*** about tuning. I would have to take my car somewhere to get it tuned, which means more money. I like the user friendlyness of the AP. You down load the map, load to your car and your done. But I know I wouldnt be getting all the power possible out of my car. I know COBB is releasing that software where you can custom tune the car aswell. But how much will that upgrade cost? And it still means I have to take it somewhere to get it tuned.. What are your personal experience?

Sounds like you have answered your own question.

For more info, there are tons, I mean tons of threads debating the merits of each product, comparing them to each other, including some bitter bitching back and forth by the partisans with and with out objectivity issues.

Search, my friend, and ye shall find.

Well.. the latest news is Cobb is done with Mazdaspeed. With no one working on maps anymore, I wouldn't feel comfortable with an AP after they've just announced this.

From the list of your mods i see basically a full TBE and Intake with a FMIC planned for the future.. The AP would help you a lot with those mods as long as you have a cat in your downpipe. The gains from the AP are very noticeable, also if you run the cobb maps for a while and find their not working or if you do more modding you can always get a custom tune made for it.
I guess what i'm saying is you can save money by just trying the AP first and worst case you have to get a custom tune exactly like you would need to do with the standback.
Also the AP gives you all sorts of live data.. you can do data logging, 0-60's, dyno, and much more.

Yeah I do love the fact that you have live data on the AP. But it scares me that COBB said that they are done with the mazdaspeed like the guy above mentioned.

^^^ honestly I don't think it matters that Cobb is done. I mean there is little to nothing left to be gained as far as the OTS maps are concerned and safety. We're at a point that if we want more power SAFELY from the AP, then a custom tune is in order. A custom tune will always be better since it's made for your car in your conditions. Now that the ATR/ATP software is out there, seriously forget the OTS maps. There are several Cobb tuners around. It's just a matter of time before they get up and running for our cars to be able to tune them. Currently I read Tim Bailey has AP tuned an MS3 to I think 319whp/330wtq on the stock turbo, stock mani and that's a safe tune.

my buddy AMS38U let me try his AP on my car this last weekend with the stage 2 map, and the car ran amazing. It pulled so hard al the way to 7k rpm. We were so impressed. I think I might go for the AP. How would go about getting the AccessTuner pro software for the AP? And, how much extra does that cost?

We did the dyno thing on the AP and it said my car had 300hp and 330tq but there was 3 people in the car and I think we entered the weight of the car incorrectly.

then your reported HP would be high... the AP thought the car had more power to accelerate the higher than actual weight... accurate weight is critical for an accelerometer based HP number...

Im going to get the AP most likely and have them custom make me a tune. Ill continue waiting to see how this COBB drama unfolds.

honestly, I wouldn't bother with OTS maps if I were them either. you don't see unichip or SSAFC (I'm an MSP guy, I'm speaking from what I know) making a tune specific to EVERY possible mod combination out there.. granted unichip is a little more flexable when it comes to getting close than the AP is, but tis the nature of the beast. I think a custom tune is the only smart way to go regardless.
Honestly, I wouldn't worry about the current drama, the full custom tune is what they should have been working for since day 1, pulling out of ots maps is good business, for everyone.

i read it the other way... if they entered too low of a number say 3000 lbs when car really weighed 3500 lbs the number displayed would be low, so insted of say 300 hp the actul would be say 320 hp.

each platform has its advantages and its disadvantages it all comes down to what you want and what disadvantages you can live with.

the problem with the serch for the cobb and the cpe debate is most get locked down too many hot heads on both sides. granted its not happening as much nowdays.
