Couldn't pull the trigger tonight on the MSP

I was so close tonight to buying a Titanium grey but I just couldn't do it. My problem was that the closest MazdaSpeed dealer is minimum a hour and a half away. After reading about all the "little" problems this car has it made me decide not to do it. I just didn't want to drive that distance every time I needed something done to the car.

I loved the car and thought it was beautiful. I took my gf with me and was very suprised at how much she liked the car. The car was a great deal and I hope I made the right decision. It has been great reading all the posts in this forum for the past several weeks.

Cheers to everyone and enjoy your car!

I've only been to the dealer once since I bought mine in August, and I don't intend on going back. I took it in once, had them flash it, replace the rear bushings, and change the oil. That's all it has ever needed and hopefully all it will need (besides more oil, but I'll take it elsewhere). I love my car, and if you have firmly decided against an MSP, then good luck to you in whatever you decide. Make a good decision based on the car and YOUR opinion of it, not what you read on here or anywhere else.

Don't let the forum get you down. For every complaint that is voiced, there are 10 praises that go unheard. People don't post about how great their car is running or how well the seats feel on their drive to work. Every forum I've been to has a "negative bias" due to the fact that this is more of a repair affair than a discussion forum. The same questions have been asked 150 times, but the only two issues with the car are the clunk and the hesitation. Mazda fixed both, and amazingly well in my opinion.

Good luck to yah. :)

likewise...

Well, I love my car as well. I do have the clunk, but (assuming the 'e' series bushings continue to work as well as everyone says) as soon as i get that taken care of, all should be well. I agree though, hence the 'likewise' subject--there is an unreflective amount of negativity on this forum. People come here looking for help when they have problems, while people that don't experience problems need not come looking for help. The same goes w/ many products on the market as well... My friend has one of these, and hasn't had but the clunk problem as well, and has had no problems since having the bushings replaced. It's a great car--if you dont plan on boosting it or doing any serious mods, you shouldn't run into any major trouble from what I expect, or from what i've heard. just remember, you still have time to go back and get it!! (rockon) No but seriously, an unbiased closing--Remember that a lot of praise for products often goes unheard.

My decision was based purely on the distance between me and the dealer. One reason I want a new car is the warranty and I want to be able to use it for my convenience. I am not worried about the reliabilty of the car I just felt that I should be able to take it to the Mazda dealership 5 minutes away from me whenever I want. I really wanted the car, I just got a promotion at work and I have wanted this car for quite some time so I thought I would do it. I was also thinking what if I move to my hometown in Idaho. It is in the middle of BFE, forever away from a MS dealership.

I also wanted to mention one more thing and then I will do my best to shut up. I could smell the antifreeze when I was test driving the car and thought maybe it was a sign.

yikes, that's no good....did you hear the turbo spooling. I've taken about 3 test drives and only heard it in 1 of the drives...that struck me as odd, but that's trivial...

You don't have to go to a Mazdaspeed dealership for service BTW I took mine to the one down the street and they have the Flash and can do any other service I need

I had mine flashed and the bushings replaced b4 I picked it up. It has been perfect. My Spicy wuz fine also except for the flash and bushings. Once that was done it was fine also. Awesome car!!!

They specifically told me that if I did not go to a MS dealership that I would have to pay out of my pocket. They said that those dealerships do not get reimbursed from Mazda on any warranty work done to the car.

There are no local dealers near me, 1 1/2 hour away. But besides the issues that you have read, it is a really nice car.

Think again!

That's not true at all. You can go to ANY mazda dealership in this country. They have a tech line. Example, my last trip to Colorado, my upper I/C host broke at the joint yet again and we took it to the local Mazda place who did not have any kind of Mazdaspeed recognition and they fixed it without any problem. The part actually got there quicker than it did at my dealership here in Austin, too.

Go get your MSP and quit believing salesmen. :D

Are you freakin serious? Well now I am just plain pissed! I guess I will call my local dealership and confirm this.

Call Mazda Corporate tomorrow. They're the ones who initially told me that months ago.. 800.222.5500. I have that number memorized, I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.. But yes, I'm serious.. Dealerships just want you go to to their own dealership for financial reasons.

I know this may be going out on a limb, as I'm not sure how fluent this is with all car companies, but i know that when i got my P.O.S. 2002 grand am as a present (some present eh? crappy car), i was told by TWO dealerships that I dont even have to take it to a chevy/pontiac dealership, but that ANY dealership, even a ford one, for instance, can fix my car and order parts through the warranty, and not have to worry about it. I know this is true, for instance, w/ the pontiac, because I traded it in for my MSP, and when i dropped it off, the passenger side window, along w/ the passenger side seat, were both broken. I had a work order w/ me that said both were covered under warranty and the Mazda guy said, "Oh, that's not a big deal, we can fix that for free because of the warranty, doesn't matter that we're not a Chevy company." So, you might wanna call about that, I'm not sure that Mazda works the other way, but it's a possibility. Just my 2 cents.

I believe that even an auto performance shop can do warranty work for you as long as they are certified by whatever car company it is...

That isn't nice. Anyway, there aren't a lot of problems with the MSP, contrary to what you might get from reading these boards. The ones that do exist are easy fixes and could be done prior to delivery if you insisted (flash & clunk).

wow t3ase, way to quote yourself! :D

and yash! tsk tsk tsk, u're scaring off teh n00bs!

.......lol, quivering......
