1G, sustained, on the skidpad is a pretty amazing feat... It's more difficult than it would seem, too. You need a very well tuned car, as well as an equally well tuned driver. The ability of the Protege5's grip is very underrated on the stock tires, which I would think would be the largest setback. Even changing my tires up to 205/50R16 Yokohama AVS ES100's, I've seen stellar increase in lateral and linear grip over the stock 195/50R16 wheels. And if you went to a 7" wide rim, pushing out the sidewall on the 205's even further, you'd get even better traction. If you look at cornering G's on a lot of cars, and tests, you'll see that a sustained 1G reading is rather difficult; It was a while back, December 2001 to be exact, that the SCC magazine with the G Games in it was released. The winner of the game, SCC/Wolfgang Hoeck's FD RX-7 pushed 1.035 to take the victory, all cars running on shaved BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KD's... It's not exactly easy to do, but it can be done, and the P5, in my oppinion, is an awesome chassis to have to work with, as would be the case with any Protege; It would seem that the chassis lends itself to wonderful handling characteristics, making it a joy to drive, regardless of skidpad results, but it has worlds of potential still untapped. Lets see what you folks can come up with, though. =) Seeing the first P5 break one lateral G would be awesome!
