CorkSport exhaust out, OEM exhaust in.

Finally got all the parts to put the OEM exhaust back in (thanks to all sellers!), and pulled the CorkSport system. Here's pics of what's left:

The muffler and resonator pipe faired well enough, but the dual-cat pipe replacement is shot. As shown in the pics, it looks as if the unit was assembled with a flex pipe, but then the flex pipe was surrounded with a can (huh? why did they do that?!?!). The front lid of the can has completely sheared off. The rear lid of the can is about 1/2 sheared off. Let's just say that it's LOUD when that part of the pipe is broken.

Performance is down, but it's much quieter. I'll decide what to do later, but right now, it's nice to have a car that's almost able to be taken in for warranty service. :)

Anyway, I'll call CorkSport on Monday, and see what their warranty period is. Either way, I'll probably be sellling as much as I can, might keep the muffler, might sell it. If anyone's interested in any parts, PM me so I can get a feel for interest, and when I know what I'm selling I'll do an official posting (following all of the rules).

how much do you want for the pipe in picture number 3? I want that piece of the exhaust.

What do I want? $1000. What will I take? Whatever the market will bear... :)

Has anyone ever parted out a CS exhaust? I have no idea what a good market price is for this. Can you buy the CS exhaust parts as single units, or only as a kit?

I'll weight and measure it, so I'm more prepared for these questions. I'll get back to you tomorrow or Monday.

The funny thing is, the pipe is amazingly light. The entire CS exhaust, including muffler, feels like it weighs less then the factory dual-cat pipe. But, as with stainless and titanium, strength and brittleness can go hand-in-hand.

How much are you willing to pay?

you are the seller, we are the buyers. Do some research and make a price for us that you feel comfortable with selling it at....then we will let you know.

You are the buyers, and I am the seller. Do some research, and make a price for me that you feel comfortable with buying it at... then I can let you know.

C'mon. What do I want to sell it for? $10,000. What do you want to pay for it? $1. Make me an offer.

I'm calling CorkSport tomorrow. While inquiring about the warranty on the dual-cat pipe, I'll ask if the parts are individually orderable. From that, I'll come up with my first asking price.

I've spoken with CorkSport, and they stated that they only warranty the exhaust for the original owner. They sounded suprised when I stated I had leased the car with the exhaust installed, them thinking the original Mazda dealer installed the exhaust. I guess as these cars age, and they're traded in, and people purchase/lease the car with installed aftermarket parts, the non-oem providors will catch up.

CorkSport said they'd call me later this afternoon, with what they're going to do about this.

Corksport Warranties our parts for as long as the original purchaser owns them.

I discussed a few options with Steve. He WAS very courteous though he had a few questions regarding our policy.

I didn't *seem* very courteous... I *was* very courteous. :) And my apologies for the bad cellular connection... I was walking form my car to the terminal, and the Blue Lot in Detroit stinks for cellular connection. :(

I can't really complain about the warranty, as the exhaust came with the lease car, and I didn't buy the car for the exhaust. I'd personally (as a consumer) like to see CorkSport go to a time-based warranty process, and not an owner-based warranty process, but that's my personal opinion. I can understand (for the many reasons that are there) why CorkSport choose to go to an owner-based warranty process.

BTW, I forgot to ask if the CorkSport is available in pieces, so I don't know what to sell the pieces for. I'll leave CorkSport a PM, and might call next week when I get back from vacation, if I haven't heard back.

OK, so the system is up for grabs. The new retail price is easy enough to figure out (it's posted on the CorkSport web page), and I've left PM and will call CorkSport, to find out what the individual prices are (if CorkSport sells them that way). I'll be posting pics with my sign on Monday, when I get back from vacation, and commit NOT to sell the exhaust until after I've posted the pics in the for-sale section. Just remember, the #1 pipe has a craked hanger, and the flex-pipe can has broken welds.

BUT, if anyone wants to make me an offer, to help assign fair market value, please feel free. I'll keep a list of who's first, and at what price, and after I post the proper pics, I'll pic a price, and close the deal.
