Coolant Smell

Does anybody else have this issue....After driving either moderate or heavy, and after letting my car idle for at least 1 minute for the turbo I can smell coolant, I have checked every where underneath the hood, but can find no leaks, I have taken it to the dealer and they say the cant smell anything or find any leaks, ANY SUGGESTIONS.

Thanks

check where the thick pipe from the top of the radiator connects to the engine. there is a clamp there that could leave a lil' bit of space for coolant to leak from...that's where mine leaks from anway. also your coolant overfill resevoir might have a bad seal on the cap. mine leaks from there as well

It might just be that after driving hard the coolant in the rad would expand into the overflow bottle and some of that smell might just be the air leaking out the top of the bottle...

probaly could be either,I'd check the upper radiator hose mine leaked there too,but it could be just the over flow.=)

I had/have the same thing. Dealer pressure tested the car and said it did not leak. I do not see signs of leakage anywhere either. Already checked the locations pointed out by other members.

Could just be another unique MSP characteristic. My other turbos do not do this.

Check all clamps and hoses.

I get this smell after I beat the s*** out of mine. It's not leaking and it's for sure burning the coolant somewhere because the overflow tank is on the low line after about 3,000 miles which isn't too bad. I'm not worried about it. My guess is it's the hot ass turbo burning the coolant since it runs through it.

Not too be worried, just add more !

yeah...i had the dealer smell it and check it
1st time was a "defective" clamp
they put a new on one
Still smell it, not as much but its still smells

no leaks are visible

2nd time at the dealer they pressure tested
all good, no leaks supposedly?

good luck b/c i dunno

(dunno)

Yeah, mine smelled like that between 3k and 7k miles. It went away for the most part, and I use about 1/4 cup of coolant per 1k miles.

That's exactly where mine was leaking. Took it to the dealership, and they replaced the hose. Haven't had the lead since then. It's been about 2 months now.

mine smells too, after every time i drive it for m ore then 30 min or just drive it hard, and just like msp4you's it was a little low after 3000 miles, but i looked everywhere and could not find any traces of coolant leaking, so i'm not worried. just add a little and keep on driving.
