coolant questions, possible leak....

did an oil change on the speed and noticed that my coolant overflow bottle was completely empty.....strange....checked the radiator and it was very slightly low.........now before jumping to conclusions and thinking i've got a leak i'd like to add some to the regular level to see if and how long it takes for it to go back down to where it's at now........

i checked the manual but am unable to find the info, did a search here along with calling two dealerships and getting two different answers......

1. if anyone has had coolant leaks where did they occur from?
2. did the speed come with long life coolant or regular stuff?
3. topping off the coolant...can i mix long life with regular and vice versa?
4. when flushing radiator....can i go from using long life to regular or vice versa?
5. what exact type of coolant should i use in the speed?

i've heard there were some problems with dex cool and being able to use regular coolant in systems requring such.......just want to clarify before i do anything. thanks.

i finally found what COULD cause the smell in alot of MSP out there.. it's the little Y hose that goes to the turbo..

i spoke with someone about that hose and it seems to be poorly built/designed and lets go out vapors... i checked mine as it was leaking because the clamps and changed the smaller clamp that was going to the turbo.. then started it and went out for a spin.. came back and looked at it.. the smell was there again.. but noticed that ON the hose.. in the middle of nowhere, a small leak appeared!!

this is gonna go under warranty..it leaks at times..

thanks for the reply frost.....do you have a pic of this hose....so i can compare on mine.

also found the answer as to how much coolant is req'd.....it's 7.5 liters.

i had a really small coolant leak at the radiator to block hose. it leaked a little from the block side. but i replaced the clamp on there and it didn't leak anymore.

I had that too, I just removed the hose and cleaned the metal. I used the same clamp, haven't noticed a leak from there.

acutally i do have something to show what hose it is..

look here : http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123640930

it,s the msp parts list... second image, the number 24.. that the little hose giving me trouble..

and to top it off, when i finished installing a new clamp on it, i noticed its leaking from the hose itself in the middle of no where!!

i need a new hose, so i called up the dealer, and he didn't have a parts list for the msp!! let alone know what hose i needed.. i emailed him the lsit and told him which one and what arrangement can be done for warranty.. and there are none.. i though this hose was part of the cooling systerm which was under the powertrain waranty ?!?!? it isisn't.. my car sits at 62000 km so im out of the ball game.. oh and the hose costs a whopping 85$ cdn (wow)

took a look today and i think i have it....same location as this.....right above where the pipe frost pointed out....same connecting poing.....appears to have white residue running down it....time for a new clamp and hopefully that's the only one...........thanks for the help guys.

im putting all stainless screw type clamps on all leaks i see.. the hose should arrive today, im gonna install it tonight and take pics..
