Coolant in Engine Oil

I have been getting my oil analyzed randomly. This last oil change report came back with elevated sodium & calcium. In the report they mentioned that it is not serious enough to cause damage at this time; however I am concerned about this. My CX7 only has 25,000 miles on it.

This vehicle has been nothing but trouble since the day I bought it new.

Has anyone here seen this on the 2.5L? I am seriously considering cutting my losses and getting rid of this and buying something else.

You don't mention which oil you are using. Sodium and calcium are oil additives in many oils and do not therefore indicate coolant in the oil. How about posting the UOA report with component details. Ed

It's the oil the dealership provides; assuming "Mazda Oil" 0W20 - and previous oil samples did not have sodium & clacium.

First...who did the analysis?

2nd...why didn't they tell you that both sodium and calcium are very common oil additives?...sodium is commonly used in machine lubricants as a corrosion inhibitor, which maintains chemical integrity within the oil for prolonged use...concentration will be all over the place depending on brand, but its very commonly found in nearly any oil...at least to a certain degree...

Sodium is used in engine cooling systems for the same reasons...but at much higher concentrations...and so is A LOT of other stuff that would clearly show up in an oil analysis...at least by a competent group of people...

Last...Calcium is a common detergent found in many types of engine oil, and is used to bind with non-soluable particulates and 'wash' them into the oil filter...

Mazda doesn't have a specific oil that they always use...they change suppliers and brands all the time...it just has to meet some certain requirements...so just because some elemental materials showed up in your last oil check...doesn't mean its leaking coolant into the engine...and i'm very surprised that the people that did the test...did such a poor job of explaining that...

Blackstone Laboratories did the test.

And my apologies, it is actually elevated Potassium & Sodium. Not Calcium.

In the comments they said this was something to keep an eye on "as they are indicators for antifreeze"

Ok, I'm just venting now.

This car, had it been 10 years old. All of the stupid little issues I've had with it I wouldn't think twice about. Right after I got this I had some electrical problems with it. Ended up spending better of a week in the shop.

Then the A/C took a crap in it. That took almost two weeks to fix, and still to this day does not cool properly.

And all the vibrations & squeaky drivers seat that feels loose all the time.

Not Acceptable! I have contacted Mazda directly, because the dealership sucks. And never seem to get any resolve.

And now this business with the engine has my blood boiling.

I have owned several new cars in the past and NEVER had to deal with the B/S that I have with this one.

It's a "new" car. I should not have to.

Ok then, I will stop offering you solutions, or ideas on ways to figure out if you are paranoid, or if there is actually something wrong.

All of my cars are working fine so I don't really care what is going on.

Peace OUT and Enjoy

We drive a 2011 Mazda CX-7 AWD Turbo and have had the ongoing problem of gas leaking into the oil. The hp fuel pump has been changed numerous times, the injectors twice. Has anyone else had this problem? If you drive a 2011 Mazda CX-7 AWD Turbo you may want to check your oil to ensure it is not above the full line and / or smells of gas.
