Contemplating trading my 02 Spec V for a 03 MSP.

2002 Spec V & 2003 P5
I'm sure I'm going to get a bias opinion, but I just would like to know what most of you MPS owners think about your car. I currently own a 03 P5 and I personally like the feel and handling of it better than the Spec V, but I enjoy driving the Spec a bit more because of the instant torque and the 6 speed tranny. I hoping to hear some positive comments to assist me in my decision making. Thanks

Like you said, it's the feel of the drive for me. I think Mazda engineers their cars to have a wonderful driver's feel. I love all of the stock parts like the sound system, wheels etc. For me it was the most complete package that offers bit potential with just bolt-on modifications. Being an autoX nut but still too poor to afford track time, I got the car with hopes of retiring it as a dedicated racecar someday.

I traded my 02 spec for an 03 msp. Both have their ups and downs. I'll try to be as unbiased as possible. I honestly do like the MSP better. I enjoyed to specs instant torque like you said. I was really into autocrossing and wanted something that could handle a lot better. The msp just feels more solid. It's a driver's race between the two for straight line speed. Don't get the msp expecting mind-blowing speed. If that's what you want, get the srt-4. My friend had an 03 spec with I/H/E/P and he was as fast as my msp with intake and 9-10 psi. The best thing to do is test drive one. That's what I did and liked this one better.

Out of curiosity, why????
because i know a kid that used to come to the meets that had one. now this kid swears up and down his car will beat anything, so him and i race 4 times, each on different occasions, needless to say i spanked him badly everytime but yet he always manages to come up with the stupidest excuses about why he lost. so ever since then, when i see a specv, i think of that goofball. therefor i cant stand the specv. however, i DID used to like em alot before. so i guess im biased towards specvs because of the kid...sorry.

^ My heart rate just went up after looking at your avatar. **Edit: That avatar was hot before he was *forced* to change it. ;)**

Spec V's are nice but Mazda is, like said before, a complete package. It won me over after one test drive. And I was looking at a Spec V for almost a year.

only think i dont' like about 02 spec v's are that the interior is red. . . .other than that they are pretty nice. .. . .. but the red interior is pretty gay imo. . .my friend is still waiting for his 04 cloud white spec v to come out of the body shop after an accident. . we are actually looking for pieces to convert his 04 to the 02-03 front end since the 04 front is just too fuggin ugly

I decided to buy a spec-V after my 12-month tour in Egypt I had my heart set on it, but I found out about the msp read all I could and was convinced after about month 9 or 10 I ordered an msp before it ever came to the states. I went on blind faith and I always wanted a turboed car. Thats my story.

I know the kind, so I understand. ( love your sig BTW )

I have an 02 with the red interior and I personally love it because it matches with the red car, but that's just me. I would NEVER, but I mean NEVER buy any Dodge, so therefore I would never own a srt4. Thanks for the feedback, please keep it coming.

You would be my new hero if we could arrange that.

for 800- you could be running 13.7's

1200- will get you traction limited 13.4's,

still get 28mpg.........

whats not to love?

I bet something went up...may not have been your heart rate though!

BTW, so I'm not thread jacking, I love my MSP, I considered the Spec V after the eight month wait for my MSP, but I am so happy I held out. The MSP has what I have learned to accept as "it's quirks" but it turns heads and tears up the autocrosses. I see probably eight or so Spec Vs each day, but I rarely see another MSP. I love the exclusivity.

Something I don't experience in the SRT either.

i had a 02 cloud white spec v for about a year, and I've had the MSP for about a year. Each car definitely has its ups and downs. Honestly, ill remember the spec v as FEELING faster to me (probably the torque). The MSP on the other hand has MUCH more potential, MUCH better suspension, MUCH better steering ratio and response, and looks a lot nice imo. Built in Japan vs built in Mexico, trust me u can tell the difference in quailty. Like everyone else says, the msp is jus better overall (the kenwood headunit makes the Rockford Fosgate headunit look like absolute s***).

OH N ALSO, all of you msp owners b**** about the tranny, the clunk, and turkey, go drive the 02 spec v. tranny is just HORRIBLE on that car, suspension clunks, steer blows (you would need about a good 3 lanes just to make a U turn), and engines even blew up b/c of oil starvation (manufacturers fault). Even after that, I still am a nissan fan, and im more partial to nissan cars. go sylvias and skylines!(yippy)

I'm pretty sure I want to go foward with this, but I think the only problem is going to be finding one. I couldn't find one within 150 miles of me. The search has begun. Thanks for the help guys.

If you want a test drive, you will love the power I have in this car, I am driving to Tampa Friday night late I am staying at the Tampa Marriot Waterside will get there late Friday night, about 11:00.
I have a confrence all day Saturday but am free Saturday night, If you are busy Saturday or if I don't hear from you, I will head back to Naples on Saturday late at night, If you want I could probalbly stay another night I don't know what your schedule is.

Be careful when thinking of trading in a car. I thought about trading in my 91 NX2000 in 1995 when the Maxima was named Motor Trend car of the year. Of course I decided to keep the NX. On this very day, 11 years ago, I purchased my NX. I even bought it used. I can't imagine I'll ever have a more fun and reliable car ever. The day it finally dies; I'll probably die too. I've had the car for a third of my life and over two thirds of the time I was able to drive. I guess I get atached to vehicles a little easier than other people do.
